anyone have LOJACK??

hey guys whatup. just wondering how people's experiences with lojack have been. i know the TL won't start if they don't have the right key with the chip in it, but they could always tow your car. you guys think its a good investment?? how much do they go for anyway?

Bascially, I don't think LoJack could really help, especially if you're living in the countrysides areas. But, they seem to build the pretty good netwok and converage in NYC areas. However, if your car is towed, your "original" LoJack prolly won't buzz you unless you have LoJack's special motion sensors on your car... IMO.

having lo-jack would lower your insurance premium somewhat...it may be a good investment in the long run (save u insurance $ while having extra protection for your vehicle)

There are satellite tracking systems now available for about the same price as Lojack.
You can locate your car calling the service provider by phone or on the internet where you'll see a map with a pinpointer.

Question in my mind...Navi cars pick up a signal from the satellite for positioning so I am guessing the satellite knows where a particular car is (I may be wrong)...isnt this the same kind of technology lojack uses... ? If so cant this be tracked by the Cops...after all it has the same Global Postitioning System (GPS) as in phones and stuff...

I have lojack with early warning on my tl. It seems like a good idea. If someone is trying to tow your car, they will try to contact by five different methods. e-mail, cell phone, home phone, and whatever other way you wish....I still haven't told my insurance about this so i can't comment about the savings. I feel its a good investment in nyc

i have it and it actually works...but last time it called me 5 different ways was when my cousin borrowed my car and the key-pass ran out of batteries.

i called him up fast and he said he was driving it...so i felt relieved.

I thought lojack used something more like a pinging device. The closer the coppers get the faster it pings(not in a literal sense). I could be wrong, and they may have updated there equiptment.

ok so, what type of tracking systems are these? so far i haven't heard any real negative comments about lojack. so i might as well get it. anybody know the prices of these things and where i can get them.

I believe it is necessary, because the TL has been a very big seller, breaking record sales. therefore alot of people own TL's. to me, i believe the TL will be a highly stolen vehicle in the future, because of the high demand of replacement parts in the future. just like the old accords and camrys. am i correct? especially since its a luxury car the replacement parts will be expensive. people always look to buy things cheaper.

security is definitely an important issue to me.

Well on some show they highlighted it. They had cops using it in russia. They said it was becoming more popular on Mob Cars cause they were recently being stolen. There was a reciever in the cop car that I think told the direction of the car and had LEDs to indicate signal strength of the signal being transmitted.

To me, car alarms are a waste of money. Every time you hear one now you wish it WAS being stolen so it will get out of ear shot as the thief drives away in it and I can go back to sleep.

I've had a 7 year old 1985 RX-7 stolen one time and it wasn't fun as I didn't know about it until the next day. My next car after that and now my new TL have LoJack. I also got the motion sensor alarm so that it will notify me right away if it moves more than 10 feet. It does get you a slight discount on insurance and some peace of mind. To me it's worth the $1k for a $35k item especially with the motion sensor so you can get the LoJack and police involved as quick as you can.

hey, 05acuratl, i work at a local police dept so take your comments and shove them where your head is.....I work at police dept as a civilian employee in the field taking reports and recovering stolen vehicles......in the past year i recovered over 250 stolen vehicles in the city i work in.....most of the patrol vehicles have lojack sensors and when they get a hit, about 3-5 patrol units will get together and track the source to the vehicle..lojack has helped us bust alot of chop shops and help people get their vehicle back in somewhat one piece.....

Wow, I guess I'm "lucky". My car was stolen overnight and recovered before I knew it was gone. The police came to me at 5:00 am, woke me up to tell me they had found it. They arrested some scumbags stripping it in their driveway. Cop driving by on patrol thought it was odd that they were disassembling a car in a drivewway at 4:00 am. It was still a hassle to deal with.

As for security, I'd like to get this:

I had LoJack on my 97 Accord .
got stolen, police recoverd the car 14 hours later totally vandalized, no leather seats, airbags or door panels... insurance totalled the car since it cost $12500 to get the seats and leather components back (the car was worth 10k, bought it used)

not worth it.

police said, on sundays they only have 2-4 cars with LoJack tacking radars, and they are all busy tracking other cars (houston is a big city).

I wanted to remove the LoJack and install it in another car (since I paid $700 for it 2 months before!) and they wouldn't let me, saying they couldn't tell me where it was installed.... like a big secret.

I just want to clarify a common misconception about GPS. The GPS Satellites DOES NOT know where your location. Your location is COMPUTED by your GPS receiver, based on the GPS satellite signals. Think of the GPS Satellites as radio stations. When you tune into a station on your car radio, does the radio station know where you are? Of course not!

I don't have a GPS based anti-theft device, but I presume the anti-theft device has a transmitter that transmits your computed location to the anti-theft company via a cell phone type network. It's analogous to having your GPS receiver connected to your cell phone and sending your location to the anti-theft company. If your car is stolen, the anti-theft company reports it to the police.
