Anyone Get the Body Moulding

I don't see too many pics ofthe car with the moulding. I think it looks good and I am getting a set. They should protect my car from the morons out in the parking lot.

We've got the BSM on our AM and I think it looks good. Got the door edge trim as well. Should help protect the car, however its always the clunkers with heavy doors that manage to park right next to you in the middle of an empty parking lot and leave dings!

Here's a link to some pics of my RRP TL with BSM. I like them...and they've helped avoid several bumps in parking lots!

Looked at those pics and can't tell that you have the door edge trim. Is it that invisible? Do they really help?

Wait - I looked back and I'm editing this post. I see them on another shot. Hard to spot on that color. Looks good!

What tires are those? Falkens or the Yoko's?

I got them on my SSM, along with the door edge trims & Moonroof visor. This car looks sharp. I'll post pics tomorrow.

I'm still debating the BSM, but I think it looks better than dings. I've got RRP too, and wondered what they'd look like. I'm petrified of all the minivans full of little munchkins that love to throw the doors open. I park out in the middle of nowhere and when I get back to my car, there's still some a-hole in a beat up POS parked right next to me. By the way, why did you let your dealer put his logo on the back of your car? I'd either ask him for $500./month for advertising or get him to take it off of there.

Munchkins don't throw minivan doors open; generally they slide.

The TL is a beautiful car whether or not it has the BSMs. Go with what you want. I have them, and do not regret it one bit.

I think the body molding looks cheesy... i saw some on a white TL the other day and I could see that it was already warped and not linear .. based on the way the light hit the car at that time of day.

My 89 Accord, may it rest in peace, came with them standard. It saved my doors from many dings since my car was often parked at the parking lots. My wife's Beetle is only 3 years old and already it's been dinged a few times. I calculate it as this. If the BSM stopped one ding from occuring on your door, it pretty much paid for itself. I had to get it for my SSM TL.

The body side moulding and door edge trim will protect your doors from dings to an extent, but there's nothing to protect them from getting dinged or scraped as they're just painted metal. Also, a warning regarding the Acura Door Edge Trims --> in order to install them, they have to gouge the black silicone insulation stripping along the inside of the door edge. Easy to screw up! My dealer did so and had to redo that insulation when I had them removed.....Not an easy job to do! Installing them can also easily damage your paint if not done properly.

So I got rid of the Acura door edge trims for custom 3M door edge strips, then had strips of clear 3M Paint Protection film installed on my Side moulding. The 3M Door Edging is solid black, soft, and will not only not ding or chip, but also will not damage someone else's door if you happen to be become one of those you're trying to protect yourself from....unlike the originals. I now have all the protection these add-ons are supposed to provide, and then some.

Pics to follow.........

As for my rear bumper protection from dents and license plate ring dings, see the 9th post in this thread:

I agree with DMZ, I installed the door edge trim myself and kinda screwed one of the doors. You have to be careful.

I pick up my TL this Friday. I'm having the body side moldings, door edge moldings, wheel lip moldings, and splash guards done prior to delivery.

I think all are worthwhile given the frequent encounters with idiots in parking lots (moldings) and sand and salt on the roads (spalsh guards).

The four items added $592 to my bottom line.

DMZ,

Where did you get the 3M door edge trims from? I had them on my Camry before and they were held on by a sticky goo on the inside of the strips. I tried to find them and couldn't after a piece fell off. That was like 5 years ago.

From the same guy who did my rear bumper as outlined in this thread:
http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...590#post837590

This is the 3M stuff not sold in stores.

Please, don't do this to your car. I beg you.

Consider this....

If the goal is to make your TL look beautiful, is it better to:

a) Put puffy lumpers and door guards on your car making it look unattractive for 36 months (1,056 days)...

...or...

b) Not put the puffers and guards on the car, making it unattractive for only 10 days (lets say you get two dings and it takes a few days to get an appointment each time).

Dings are so small they're barely noticable and they can be removed for the same money and will only be visible (up close only) for less than a week over a three year period.

Puffy lumpers and door guards are very large and very noticable and cost the same as the inevitable ding removal and are very visible for every single minute of every single day for the next three years.

So why do it?

You have a mole on your face. Your doctor gives you two options: You have the option to take preventative maintenence and put a huge band aid on your face for three years or you can get minor surgery and have it removed. While you'll look bad for the 10 days after the surgery, you'll look great the other 1,046 days as opposed to walking around as bandage-face for 1,056 days. What are you going to tell the doctor?

The biggest design statement the car makes is the unusual squared and indented groove along each side of the car. Any first year design student will tell you that you can't counter this element with an opposing element....especially one that is rounded and puffed out.

The car has two parallel lines that contradict each other. It's hideous. Take the Empire State Building with its squared design and put a big red ball on the top. That would look attractive.

People Of Puffyland:

The other option is the lesser of the two evils. Take the two dings on your car over the next 36 months and get them fixed as they occur. Better to have unattractive dings for 10 days than hideous bellowing puffers for thousands of days. It is completely humourous that in an attempt to keep your car looking beautiful you're making it ugly! STOP!

Only 2 dings over 36 months??????

Where in the middle of nowhere do you live?

In the garage my car lives in, it's a hell of a lot more like 36 dings including ring dings on the bumpers in 2 months!
Too bad I don't have pics of all this on my ex-Accord for you.

And no, I don't live in Puffyland, I live in a place known as The Big Apple...Thank you very much.

That's what you get for buying a new luxury car and parking it in a cheap lot. My garage on the Upper West (bet CPW and Columbus on 87th) had my Legend for two years and never got dinged, not once.

Forget the lumpers....go find a better garage. Or try taking the $500 lumper money and tip better

My high rise building on York Ave happens to have an expensive garage, just like yours. They get tipped VERY VERY well at X-Mas and when I take the car out on weekends. Luckily, they treat my TL tons better than they did my '89 Accord.

Regretting BSM

The night before I bought my TL, I parked next to one with door dings, which clouded my judgment. I went for the BSMs. When I look at my car I can't help thinking it just doesn't look quite right.

Is there any way to remove these things without damaging the paint?
