the car i test drove sounded the same, however at the time, i simply assumed it just needed some tweaking because the hype acura gave, no way it could sound that bad. and most systems at first need that tweaking to the driver's preferences anyway. my mistake!

All the reviews I have seen have put the TL audio system at the top.
I dont think my car sounds muddy at all.
Unlike most other car audio systems I have heard, the TL sounds most like a home system without all the bass boost many car systems have.

Have you checked out other TL's, maybe there is something wrong with yours.

I think my settings are treble +2, bass +2, and sub at +2, and it sounds a bit
light in the bass to me.

yeah i agree, the reviews i read said the same, that's what surprised me. i just don't get crisp highs or low base. Most of the bass is a muffled <boom>. i've tried all different settings. i'll give a shot at yours, appreciate the help!

no problem,, its a good quick reference.. print it up and keep it in your glove box. i think its a little easier than going to the info screen and looking up the command under the proper heading. once you use it a few times it starts to become second nature..

The ELS system is muddy. It's still a fantastic stock audio system though. It took some tweaking to get the sound levels where I wanted them, but once I got it there I've been satisfied.

As for DVD-A, I have a huge collection of DVD-A discs, many are recently released. I love the way the DVD-A sounds in the TL.

do you mind me asking what you did to tweak? what levels?

and where do you purchase your dvd-a? it does sound awesome, just such a light selection of them.

OK, if you're looking for DVD-A discs to purchase, you won't find them at your brick and mortar retail places. A lot of the stores i.e. CC, BB removed most of their inventory last year after summer. I found that the best places are online, here are some sites:
Circuit City
Buy DVD Now
DVD Empire
DVD Planet
Buy.com
Acoustic Sounds
Digital Eyes
AIX

Just say it.

All of the listed commands can be accessed right in the car just by saying "voice command help" or by using the touch screen help menu. It is truly a marvelous system.

yes it is... but isn't that ironic??? i have to ask the system for help on how to use it when i don't know how to ask it to begin with. by the time i figure it out, it's simply easier to push a button.

Read the manual and stop whining... You have had the car a week give it some time. It takes some time to get familiar with the commands.

I keep all my audio settings in the middle. I find that works well as I listen to a variety of music and I don't want to keep adjusting. Many people on this site have put in aftermarket systems, check out the Audio subforum.

You need to go out and enjoy your TL as you say you love the car and put this issue to rest. The stereo is just one small piece of the whole experience of the car and if it is not up to your satisfaction then you should check into alternatives if your going to get upset everytime you turn on the car and hear the stereo.

OK....you just traded in a car and bought the awesome TL (owned my 04 for almost 2 years and love it everytime I drive it---everything about it!). Why didn't you research the car and test drive / listen to the radio and decide against it at that point???

Why the f would you pursue purchasing a car that you are basically unhappy with??? If you can afford to pay more (like you mentioned above), why didn't you buy the new IS by Lexus or something else???

YOU MAKE NO SENSE...the radio was rated one of the best by MANY sources. Who cares if there are not enough DVD-A's out there (I have 15 decent must-have CD's); besides, having XM takes precedence over the CD's. I have bose systems in my home and they are great products BUT can be beat at a better price!!! This ELS system rules...maybe you need to clean the wax outta your ears?

Tired of the negativity on the TL....a fine automobile all around!

I must say the Acura audio system does sound good with the DVD-A in it. And I think all the reviews say it’s good because of the DVD-A. But if this car didn’t support DVD-A what kind of review would the audio system get? I think it wouldn’t score very high.

Also none of the recording studios support DVD-A. Everything still comes out on CD. I think it would be easer to find a virgin in a whore house, than to find a store that stocks a good selection of DVD-A’s

What good is DVD-A for our car if everything still comes out on CD.

DUDE, chill out man... it's a forum where people express their opinions and comments. I was simply asking if anyone else had the same issues i had. End of story. Did i once say i was unhappy with the car? Not that i know of.... i have my own reasons for purchasing the car and all in all, i'm very happy with it. So go back, take your meds and relax. You don't have to scan the threads looking for every negative comment about the car.

I mean, come on, that ELS system is hands down the worst audio system in a car i've ever heard. Sure it's great it has all those speakers, but everything sounds so muffled. Adjusting the treble and bass does nothing. DVD-A does sound good, yet muffled as well, but that format is so widely unsupported. You can only find rare dvd-a's yet oldies out there. What happened to MP-3??? Sure you can burn dvd-a, but you're not going to get the multi-channel surround sound. So what's the point in having it? I've listened to the bose in the RL. NOW THAT'S A SYSTEM. The lows are thundering and the highs are crisp. Sweet.

Also, with all those features and gadgets, why did they not put in automatic headlights? Does anyone else really use the voice commands? I'm still trying to find a list of all the commands that are available without resorting to trial and error. For those of us with radars who plug into the dash, they certainly tried to hide that behind the little door. And probably the biggest thing, why front rear drive? With 285 horses, i want that power in the back!

Don't get me wrong, I love the car... i just traded in my is300 and the car is awesome. But to me, it falls short of perfection. So, i was just wondering if anyone else thinks the way i do or am i just nuts. Please, feel free to let me know!

The ELS sound system is one of the best out there. Th e TL has automatic headlights, you just got to set in the MID, I use the voice recognition all the time, and I'm actually kind of glad the TL is a FWD, I mean I know it can't handle as well as an IS but if it the TL was a RWD, you'd see TL's everywhere. And also, the 2006 TL is 258 horsepower not 285. Do your damn research foo and quit crying like a little bitch!

i agree with everything except the stereo. not boomin, but pretty good. xm is muffled, but cd's sound pretty crisp imo.

fwd is okay for the winter here though.

my other beef is no windshield fluid warning. take that bullshit seatbelt warning off - i know when i'm not wearing it - and tell me when I'm low on wiper fluid so i don't find out when my window is caked with crap.

and hey bitch, it does not have auto headlights, they would turn on and off based on the light outside, not simply turn off after a timer. OH and um, moron, i corrected myself like 3 pages back about the 258 hp, it was a typo. Please read the entire thread before you post so we don't waste time reading your stupid comments.

I agree with the daytime auto headlights. I do miss them, but the stereo system in the TL is pretty good compare to the Nacamichi system I had in my lexus. The ELS probably sounds better because it has 8 speakers compared to the 7 in the Nacamichi.

I had a 2000 ES300 Platinum. The IS came out the year after I bought mine. You may have had an upgraded system then. I could be wrong, but all lexus premium stereos at that time were nacamichi until the Mark Levinson came out a couple of years ago.

complain it to ur dealer, ask them to switch the audio system with a Tsx, coz the tsx audio is louder. lol

As for the auto on lights. i really don't need it.. i have read several posts about HID's and how to maintain them to their max life. those suckers are expensive to replace. I would rather just turn them off/ on myself and hold myself responsible rather than cursing the car when they blow out due to the auto on feature.. As far as the stereo is concerned. i kinda like it. There are many other people on this site that are in the same boat as you and don't like the sound. Alternatively, they have replaced their systems with aftermarket ones. Kept the same factory headunit, but added some amps, speakers and subs. Im sure those systems sound great. If you have the Time, energy, and money then upgrade the system. or, if you don't want to upgrade the system then try to mess with the treble, bass, sub and im sure that you will most likely find a sound that suits your need... good luck

hmmm, makes me wonder then, why in a more expensive car do they put that system in? my hopes is acura monitors forums like this and takes them into consideration. i tried to contact acura itself, not the dealer, but they acted like they didn't care.

if next model they come up with something truly remarkable, dont' everyone thank me at once! hahaha

in my lexus i had the auto on feature and loved it... just you just never have to mess with turning the lights on or off. not a biggie, just a neat feature.

appreciate the advice regarding the stereo.... time is limited with me plus the wife, not sure she'd like me replacing that since i just got it. So i'm stuck! but oh well, i'll live.
