anyone else notice outside temp gauge not working due to recent heat?

i noticed my outside temp gauge not working around 1 oclock today it just displayed ___ instead of the actual outside temp.....but it works fine now.....i thought it could be due to the severe heat that's been hitting the jersey area starting today.....maybe it was too hot for the gauge to measure the temp...... don't think i need to overreact and take it to the dealer, right? regardless, stay cool guys

Don't think you need to the dealer.

It seems like the temp display maxes out at some temp above 100.

I live in phoenix, and my gauge displays --- somewhere around 110-115. The heat from the engine does seem to affect the temperature display.

Ditto. I don't know why it would say --- instead of saying the actual temp.

My 05 outside air temperature reading will max at 115°F. After 115°F, it will give the three dashes.

Here is a link to how the outside air temperature indicator works:

Mine did the same thing yesterday. I would see it reading 99, then later I would see the 3 dashes. Continuing to drive I would see a reading of 101. This happened a couple times yesterday. I can't recall ever seeing a reading of 100 though (but I don't focus on the thermometer when driving). This was all while the car was in motion. I recall seeing something about the car having to move a bit for accuracy. I'll mention this to the dealer my next visit.

This outside temp gauge is a joke. It's damn near useless in my heat. I'm looking at a Gentek mirror that has a gauge that actually works.

I encounter the dash too recently. Here is my theory. The display will show dashes if you sit still (not moving) too long.

I nearly freaked when I first saw the dashes. Then I realized that I had been sitting the the car (parked) with the engine running. I was waiting for the wife to come out of the store. So, when the wife does return and I start rolling thru the parking lot, I checked the temp. The displayed then showed the correct temp after I started rolling thru the parking lot. Just my theory based on my limited experience with the "dashes".

same thing happens to me...i live in tulsa, ok and it's been 105+ for the last week and a half...occasionally when i start my car, the temp. gauge will read -- and then minutes later will display 115 degrees....i assume it just needs a minute to read the fawkin' hot temperature outside...but if i can feel the heat sticking to my skin, then i don't need a temperature gauge to tell me it's hot out...

IMHO a waste of time to take it in. Mine was replaced at about 5k miles. Search the forum to see what is happening. When car is not moving the sensor gets to hot to read temp. When you get moving again it gradually cools down and the display works again. It can only come down a few degrees at a time. This was not one of Acuras better ideas. My temperature display in the MDX is perfect all the time.

The fix is to look at you mpg/mph display instead, sucks but keeps your blood from boiling (more). This is the only problem I have had with my TL in almost 25k miles and almost 2 years. Sorry you guys are hot like we were all last month.

Mine is different

After the temperature passes 115, mine displays "it's a dry heat".
