Anyone else having prob with 2nd Gear

This could be me-I could be doing something weird I dont know. But when I start out from a stop (6MT) it is all smooth tilll I want to shift into second gear, it feels a little crunchy getting in unlike the butter smooth of the other gears. However, say I am in third and I down shift to second, it is smooth. Why does it feel ruff when I am going trhough from first to second gear. Am I doin something wrong?

I have the EXACT same problem. I was just going to post about it. First to second shift is sometimes crunchy, always crunchy when the car is cold. Third to second is fine. Car only has 450 miles. I guess I will be have to bring the damn car in again. I have waited on bringing it in because the problem is not consistent once the car is warm - sometimes it happens, sometimes not, and I don't want to drive it all the way in just to have the techs say they can't replicate the problem. Seems to be becoming more consistent. I will let you know if I bring it in, and what happens.

Please let me know, I was not gonna bother with it because just like you it happens every once and a while but constantly when it is just starting up and going, it feels like the flywheel is not coming around quick enough to get it in the gear spot and it is a split second off. If this makes sense

Man I thought I was the only one.........

Yeah.....it feels like somthing is partially blocking or just making it hard to put in to second...... Yesterday I tried to put into second after first and it didn't go all da way in.......grinding sound followed........I am taking this to the dealer to complain.....

Let me know the outcome, I have a feeling it is going to be nothing but maybe just the breaking in of that gear. I have done some experimenting and found that if I shift in this order....first...neutral....second... the problem does not arive, but when youdrag from first straight down into second it happens. Odd/

Its been posted elsewhere. Cold synchros are a little balky after a cold night, its normal. They should work normally once they warm up 10 min at most.

the 1st and 2nd syncros are different from the rest. they are stronger due to the shorter gearing and out put in 1,2,3rd gears

Try double clutching for the first few shifts into second. Or just shift alot slower.

That should help.

WOW I have the same problem, I thought I was just being paranoid. It wont engage easily, it grinds sometime even if I slam on the clutch. Happens very often to me. I plan on bringing it in.

PS I had a friend drive and they notices it too. The rest of the gears are fine and smooth, whats worse is down shifting to 2, it takes to much effort.

It shouldnt be that difficult (feels like a cable gear)

Is this the same issue ppl bring it up monthly?

Acura should tutor this trick to ppl buying 04TL 6MT.

i have recently noticed this grinding into 2nd gear as well. it sometimes shifts smoothly but seems it is only smooth when i shift to 2nd slowly. It grinds about 70% of the time going from 1st to 2nd and it does not grind when downshifting to 2nd...let me know how it goes at the dealer

Rets Ive driven a few manuals before and never ran into the problem. I even drove a friends 2002 Civic and it felt much smoother and easier to shift.

I do not think its a Honda/Acura standard.

Fascinating -- I had the same issue (1st to 2nd) with my '84 Prelude...was also told it was the syncros...I loved that car and really miss it, so now that I know this car has the same idiosyncrasy, I may need to rush out and buy one!

Guys, put some MT 90 Redline or Amsoil MTF in there. It will solve that issue right away. It's because the fluid manufactures use from the factory doesn't flow well when cold just like engine oil. If you put those fluids in there, it will be buttery smooth.

The guys driving RSX Type S (6sp) have been complaining about the second gear grind since the RSX came out. I believe there was a service bulletin from Acura on the issue.
