Angry Anyone else had their TL broken into?

Damn thieves busted my passenger window Friday night while I was having dinner All they took was my radar detector (Escort 8500 x50). Just a smash and grab. But, damn this pissing me off. Anyone else had a break in? If so, what was the damage and repair cost? As best I can tell the only damage is the glass itself and the little trim piece on the rearward side of the windown is bent. Hopefully there is no damage inside the door. I am taking in for an estimate today. I was just wondering about what the cost would be.

At Oracle Arena, somebody managed to open my windows thru the drivers side key hole using a pick or something, and stole a bunch of stuff from my center console and trunk. My keyhole was all scratched all around and that was the only apparent damage besides the stolen items. I replaced it with the rear side door cover so if another thief should try again, it will delay them an extra 8 seconds.

Tek: Cord was hanging down to the console. Detector was mounted very low on the windshield with the suction cups.

Mine was not the only vehicle in the same lot that was broken into. They were very efficient and fast. Obviously not first time thieves.

While agree it would not have been broken in to if the detector was not in plain site, but I was not in my nieghborhood. Shit like this is incredibly rare where I live. I need to be more careful when I go other places though. At least they stayed out of my trunk where I had golf clubs and a laptop. I can live without the detector easier than those two items.

I don't see how this is related to the type of car, it's a crime of opportunity. If they saw a radar detector inside a Yugo, they'd break in - it's the treat, not the package.

IIRC, there's a switch in the glove compartment that double-locks the trunk and then you lock the glove compartment. But if someone has read the Acura manual, there's also an emergency way to go through the ski passthrough and reach up and get into the trunk.

^ I believe there is a key lock on the passthrough to the trunk

nyc- west 19th st. woke up to a call from someone who had found my laptop case with nothing in it but some papers including my cell number.....i said "WTF?" looked out the window and saw the rear passenger window smashed out lying on the ground....my stomach dropped. luckily my laptop was laying on my couch, i just left the case in the car, stupid stupid stupid, i got the case back, the thief got nothing-once he saw there was no laptop he threw the case on the ground and kept it movin, i got a $300 window repair, my tint guy felt bad and tinted for $0, some people suck, some people are awesome. if the thief took a little more time and searched the center console and glove box he would have had-digital camera, video iPod, 8g flash drive, a bunch of other crap and the most valuable of all- my Breitling Navitimer!!! i was the luckiest jackass in the city that night. yes, i learned my lesson. dont keep anything in your car except seats and a steering wheel.

or just crazy nuts? Why didn't you cash out your IRA and leave the bag of cash in the trunk as well? Anyone who has ever owned a convertible quickly learns, everything is a car is public property and is likely to disappear at any time. You live accordingly.

it happends to all of us, that's the society we live in, it's easier to steal than to buy.

My friend of mine has those two sucktion cups on the windshield... I told the schmuck remove them, remove them...being a parrot for a month.. Guess what? his car was broken too, those two cups were from and old navi he didn't have anymore, so the thief didnt find anything, but they returned the favor by ripping his interior apart.

Another reason, why I only got 35% all around, so idiots can see inside, and realize there is absolutely nothing they can steal. After two of my cars being stolen and vandelized, I never keep anything valuable in the car, or at least in the open area.

That sucks. So far so good but I don't leave anything in plain sight. Also make sure to turn down the stereo at least a mile before parking.

Very good suggestion, I've made this a habit ever since I had my first car/stereo in high school.

Had my driver window busted, door panel trim scratched, upper driver seat scratched, center console arm rest scratched, rear AC vent trim scratched.

Parts + labor @ my Acura dealership = ~$2500

My TL was brand new when I took a trip to Tampa. I parked in a lighted, security patrolled parking lot at a restaurant. I had just detailed the car and it was spotless.

When I got back in the car, I noticed some things sitting on the center console that should have been in the glove compartment.

Upon checking further, my radar detector was gone as was my Sun Pass toll transponder.

The thief(s) had carefully gone through my console and glove compartment, placing things back the way they were (except for the one item left out). There was NO SIGN of forced entry. No damage. Not even any smudges or fingerprints.

I still don't know how they got in but there are other threads detailing the same experience with many TL owners. Apparently, it is common to hack into the keyless entry system codes.

I was just lucky that my a-holes appreciated a nice car and treated it with respect.

In my case, I self-parked and locked.

I wasn't far from the front door and I'm wondering if I might have accidentally unlocked the car by pressing the button in my pocket.

Highly unlikely. The unlock button is small and so is its range.
