Any problems or input with Gates timing belt kit?
Thinking about getting the gates timing belt kit from rockauto. $133.79 seem pretty good deal. ANyone run into any issue after they installed it?

Wouldn't it be best to go with OEM parts? I've never heard anyone having problems with the OEM timing belt kit. Something that can fail and cause expensive damages should be done the right way imo.
I would spend the extra money and go OEM through one of our vendors just for the peace of mind.

i have it installed, no problems. The DIY thread is based off a Gates kit too, no problems. Around 12k miles on mine so far.
The only way you can mess it up is if it's installed wrong, really.
Everything but the water pump is OEM. The pump in the gates kit is from China. If you're afraid of that get the Aisin kit which has a japanese pump.
Unless you want to spend an extra $100 on a kit from Acura proper, buy a Gates or Aisin kit. Acura dealer's kits typically dont include the timing belt idler and include a drive belt instead. I would rather have the idler, personally.
Gates is a well known manufacturer and is one of the OEMs for Honda.

I have 45K miles on the 329 kit. No issues. As already noted, all parts are OEM except for the water pump.
If you had bothered to read the TB DIY thread, you would know that the Gates kit has been used by many and would not have needed to start another useless TB thread

Most of the failures I see are almost instant. Lots of cracked housings, leaks, broken impellers things like that. Honestly if you have gone 12k I wouldn't worry to much about it at this point. I mean I do see plenty that have no problems. I'm going to have to do my belt in the next year I will be using a gates kit. I most likely will buy an oem pump though
There's plenty of people on this board who've used the Gates kit and I haven't heard of a single issue with the kit.
I have 50K on the Gates kit and water pump, no issues. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this kit to anyone.
In my district that I run of 10 stores we sold 491 gates tckwp kits in the 4th quarter of last year. We had 61 kits returned defective. Of the 61 kits I had 53 labor claims placed because of defective water pumps. That's roughly an 11% defect rate. Now compare that to my gmb brand new water pumps that I sell. In that same quarter we sold 1,103 pumps which had 48 labor claims placed. That is roughly a 4.5% defect rate. We had 68 days we were open for business during that quarter so that's almost one a day. I see and sign off on every single labor claim. So to answer your question yes I do see them all the time. Also if you see what I typed I recommended the kit I will be using one next year. I just will not use their water pump. And as I stated there are plenty of people running them with no problem at all.
