Any help out there?

I need help! I go in to get my B service done today and come to find out that my brakes are all worn out?!? At 16k???? I've done a search on this topic and I couldn't find too much on my issue directly... frankly, i'm too disturbed to do anymore searches. I just got charged $700 for replacement! They said it was both the pads and something else that needed to be replaced. Is this accurate? Can I possibly contest this with their GM or something? Oh, I also found out that my pos EL42's were also worn out but i'm happy to get rid of 'em. So I replaced the tires (khumos) and the brakes for a total of $1400!!!! Nice 4th of July huh? There goes my order for some j5 pros.

So if any of you knowledgeable's out there would be so kind as to give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

More information would be useful. Do you have AT or MT? How hard do you drive? The brakes on the car seem to be relatively complaint free. A quick search reveals only a couple of threads about premature brake wear.

I have 31.5k miles on my car and have no brake issues on my original set of pads and rotors. Then again, I do a lot of freeway driving and use the Sport Shift in stop-and-go traffic for engine braking, so this result is expected.

Brakes AND tires gone at 16,000 miles would only seem to point in two directions: something is terribly wrong with the suspension settings and geometry (which would have been felt) or TL2k5 drives most aggressively.

I am approaching 15,000 on my '04 manual TL and I estimate that I am about half way through my stock OEM EL42's and my front pads. Actually less than half way through the tires would be a better estimate.

Good luck

Yeah, that's what the service guy said but I don't think I slam my brakes at every stop (if that's what breaking hard means). I guess I do it without knowing it? I dunno... i'll have to change my driving habits or it has something to do with downtown LA traffic every day.

Thanks for the input

brakes and tires gone at 16K is pretty good... No, that sucks... I have driven several cars of this type and my CL S got over 80,000 miles on the brakes and about 40 k on a decent set of tires..
