Cool Another WRX Dusted!

WRX's are very popular up here in the land of the snow and this is the second one I dutifully show tail to. For even better kicks it was a chick in the wagon WRX!!!! She was kind of cute too! The kill was from arond 30 MPH toping out around 90 MPH, again it was no contest, after 60 it was adios amigos!!! I cant wait to taste an STi, I'll bet it can't take the TL from a rolling start either!

dude, sti has ability to dust a 350z according to their forums. With their sixth gear instead of five...and don't misunderstand, even though its refer to as wrx sti, STI is different than WRX by a mile. specially a wagon with girl driving in iT, I can't beat my brother's UNmodded 04 WRX.........my2

Also not trying to be ignorant....

Maybe if the Tl weighed 300lbs less than it does...power to weight the TL gets crushed

TL 270 hp 238 tq 3482 lbs 6 SPD
STI 300 hp 300 tq 3265 lbs 6 SPD

What is it that makes you think you could take an STI from a rolling start?

Out beloved 04 TL is not even on the same playing field compared with the Subaru WRX STi. There's just no comparison.

Where as Acura made comprimises in performance in the name of class and comfort, Subaru made no such comprimises on the STi: it's all performance. It's raw turbo power.... it'll kick a TL butt any day of the week.

BTW, here's a quote from CarAndDriver talking about the WRX STi:

Consider that one of our testers quite rightly concluded after a hard point-and-squirt run on a tight country road in Southern California that he couldn't have gone through the section any faster if he'd been in a Ferrari 360 Modena.

This has been discussed before. The Evo and STi are a completely different breed of car...rally inspired, high horsepower road munchers. The TL is not a competitor performance-wise, and shouldn't really aspire to be.

The other thing is that BIG extra horsepower is just too easy to find in the turbo cars. The typical buyers of these vehicles know that and quickly exploit that advantage. Chances are that any STi or Evo you run across on the street will be at least lightly modified, and unless the driver is extremely sub-par, you'll get raped from standing start or a roll.

Obviously the stock WRX gives up alot to the TL in horsepower, but again that deficit can be made up in short order. The only big advantage we have is gearing that allows better pull at higher speeds.

P.S. Don't race an SRT-4 either; they're the biggest sleeper pocket rocket on the road. They make every bit of their rated horsepower and then some at the wheels .

the sti is a go-kart type of automobile. it has superior handling, less weight, and more horsepower and torque.

It would still be interesting to see! I haven't seen any STi around here yet! Yes HP is high but don't forget that drivetrain losses in a 4WD are pretty high. And, I don't mind to lose!

Maybe...but a factory "Stage 1" upgrade on an SRT-4 is advertised at 240 hp/260tq. Based on stock engine dyno tests that will be WAY conservative and probably more like 250+ at the wheels (untweaked) which will put it in STi territory. With everything even, the STi will have a big advantage from a standing start due to the AWD, but less driveline loss on the SRT gives it the advantage from a roll. The SRT has been laying down some pretty impressive 1/4 mile times in stock form with no LSD; this year they get front LSD which should do nothing but improve the performance. That, the Stage 1 upgrade, and a good driver would gave an STi a run for its money (assuming the Subie is unmodified...a sucker's bet at best)

Personally I'd rather have the STi, but the SRT-4 would be a hoot.
