Another Lower Grill Variation (Modification)

Hi, ALL!

This is what I did to my lower grill. Let me know what you think!!!!

Peace !!!! No comments on the car's cleaniness....it rained and I had no time to wash it but I had time to put the mesh on the grill.

Almost looks like a product from grillcraft or grille-tech... they're the only ones I know that put the rubbert protector around the edges.

Looks very clean. I like it.

That looks great... I would do that same thing, and I would definently do it in black mesh. How much were all the parts, and how hard was the installation? The slit across looks great, please fill us all in, alot of people are going to want to do this...

That does look good.

I put all the pictures in the first post and deleted the second one so it's easier to see everything.

If you could tell all these guys how you did it, that would be great.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. Believe it or not, it is the original grill on our cars right now. All I did was dremel out all the horizontal bars and left the big middle one alone. I then cut the grill to fit the existing platic molding and JB Welded it onto the frame. Before I welded it with the epoxy, I kept it in place with 20 inch galvinized wiring found at Home depot. Just let it sit for about 1/2 to 1 hour to cure. (FYI, the grill frame is very thin so to make things easier, place epoxy on the messh and the frame to get a strong bond. If you put the epoxy on the rim of the grill and put the mesh over it, you will not get a tight hold. Don't worry about putting too much epoxy in the back side of the grill frame because you will not see it once installed.)
The middle chrome part is Doge chrome door molding I bought at C.A.P.

Also, wear protective eye wear and gloves. The mesh is very sharpe. I use gutter or tin snips to cut the mesh.

I would take pictures, but it is a pain in the ass to pull back out a second time. Sorry about that. if you have questions while working on it, I could help. I knew I should of taken pictures while installing but didn't know how it would turn out.

NFLblitz1,
I am thinking of doing the upper grill as well. When I do so, I will definitely take pictures and do a write up. I won't be for another week or so. I hope you can wait.

Oh, the cost for every thing was
$2.39 for the chrome
$1.98 for the galvinized wire
$4.95 for the JB Weld
$5.95 for the gutter guard (mesh) only used 2 of the 6 pieces
alot of cutting

The mesh looks great!! I've been thinking of doing it as well, however, I've heard that mesh can disrupt airflow to the intake. Is this true?

About 2 hours because I had to let the epoxy dry. You could fit and glue it in 45 minutes to an hour.

I'm not sure but I do not think it makes a big difference. I figure the thickness of the horizontal bars I cut out (total of 4) would equal the same or a little less than the mesh. I saw somewhere on the net that the mesh does not dirupt airflow, but I'm not sure how reliable it is. I let you know if my car heats up (just kiddin')

Sorry about that. I bought it at home depot and it came in 5 pieces not 6. They are under the gutter section.

Those do look good! And they just put a Home Depot 5 minutes from the house...might have to check this one out...got WDP so I'd have to paint mine black first.

Great job on the install...very clean and professional looking...keep us posted on the upper grille.

Gotta agree with everyone else. The mod looks terrific. It's clean and looks practically OEM with excellent fit.
