Driving out to South Bend on PA/Ohio/Indiana turnpikes last Friday, I started hearing a noise souding like it was coming from the center console stack, around the shifter, or the area of the center HVAC vents.

I could hear it every time I drove over rough pavement, cracks or pavement joints (anyone driven the PA Turnpike?) and it sounded like the rattling of a loose piece of plastic.

Several times when my patience had run out I would mute XM and try to stop it by pressing on various trim pieces, auto shift gate, vents, etc. No luck.

I had about decided it must be inside the center vents when I made one more try starting out for home (10 hours away): BINGO--it was the grill over the center speaker on top of the dash causing this rattling noise over bumps. Several semi-violent whacks at it finally stopped it from rattling. For now at least.

This is an extremely easy fix-shouldn't take more than 5 min. Check out the 3G Garage. You just need some foam tapes and the center speaker+grill comes out easily.
