Thumbs up Annoying Console Rattle(s) Fixed today!

[COLOR=Blue][SIZE=2][B]Have had 2005 TL for about a month now and have lived with the most annoying rattle(s) in front of car near shift gate and radio/heat controls. Brought it in today (Rich Rediker's Acura of Ocean in NJ) and got the royal treatment:

-Fresh brewed columbian coffee
-fresh bagel
-road test with positive technician
-technician quickly acknowledged rattles
-offered loaner or wait around (I waited)

Technician isolated following rattles:

-Aluminum strip covering shift gate surround (removed strips and installed felt tape)

-Shifter console plate (removed plate and installed felt tape)

Went on pre/post road tests (3) and got car washed & vacked. Drove 20 miles to work, 20 miles home. No rattles heard (knock on console) I mean wood.

This was an absolutely pleasurable stay at a dealer I have had issues with in the past. Since I had my 2003 3.2 TL back in March of 2002 until now this dealership has made mammoth strides. My rattles are gone (for now at least) and I do believe they really care!

Hats off to the entire staff at Acura of Ocean and the Rediker family!!!

Glad to hear you had such a great experience and nice to know there still are a few dealerships that act like a luxury dealership should.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you should be able to take your car to any Acura dealer for any warranty problem.. right? Why is it that most dealers(at least the ones I've went to or called) treat us/me extremely poorly if you didn't purchase the car from them? I've been told numerous times by various dealers, "take it to the dealership where you bought it / that's only covered by the place you bought it at".

I'd love to complain to ACS about them but from what I've read in this forum ACS is even worse than the dealers.

I wish I could go to Acura of Ocean but it's too far a drive for me.

Unfortunately, that's not going to work. CONGRATS on finding a good dealer and being treated so well. It gives me faith that there are nice dealers out there that do what they are supposed to do. That's awesome. Incidentally, I had the same rattle, but suppressed myself with felt tape also. Enjoy the quiet ride!

Go to Acura of Ocean and ask for Bill Stewart (Service Advisor). Tell him he came highly recommended. Also ask for Russell Rediker (owner's son) if complaints weren't fixed to your satisfaction. He has recently launched a powerful customer satisfaction campaign because as he states: "Lexus is kickin' our butt (Acura in general, not the dealership) nationally in CSI."

I think they treat transcients pretty well and it will be worth the trip.

PS: Kiss royal butt early on and be patient. Oh, it wouldn't hurt to slip the Service Advisor and Technician 10 bucks each afterwards if problems are solved and car is washed

Good luck!

Thumbs down

I know every person has a different experience with their dealer but I would recommend everyone to stay away from Acura of Ocean. I had a lot of problems with the used car manager there as well as the General Manager. They accused me of switching rims out on a car I traded in (which I didn't do) then threatened not to put my Motor Vehicle paperwork through. Those two guys were real a**holes. The GM played the 'good guy' role until he got what he wanted then he refused to return any of my phone calls. I finally got him back on the phone weeks later and he was very unprofessional. I obviously never brought my car back there for service so I can't speak for their service dept. but I wouldn't recommend buying a car from them. That GM truly defines what a piece of of garbage is.

Kiss butt royally on first visit and grease Svc. Mgr. $20 after visit thanking him for his efforts. 20 bucks goes a long way with these guys because nobody else ever tips them. LOL

i think i will have to resort to acura of ocean. i brought my car in for service at open road acura today for a really strange rattleby the rear curtain airbag. i took the tech for a test drive, he heard it. took my loaner and left. couple of hours go by, and they called me back saying that they need $100 diagnostic fee because i have aftermarket springs on it and its because it wasnt tightened. They ASSUMED this. but the noise was easily pinpointed by anyone that ever heard it, that it wasnt from the strut.

and this really set me off...they tried to fix the deck rattle last time and didnt work. so they were going to do it again. so i asked him, if he could just pop the airbag panel out(i think its called C-pillar) which is just one clip to find that rattle since they had to remove the seats anyway. they said pretty much denied me on the spot. (i even offered to go there and pop the stupid clip off so they can "diagnose" the rattle. they said they had to ask the service manager which wasnt going to be there until next tuesday.

so i have to bring it back next tuesday and argue with the service manager again...they should really reimburst me for making 4 trips to fix a rattle.

Does anyone know which is the best Massachusetts dealer. So far we have gone to Acura of Boston to test drive(5 miles away) and they treated us nicely but seemed disapointed when we didnt buy that day. I have heard good things about Clair Acura too. Anyone from MA know where you can get the best deals and who has the best costumer service? Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I'm glad to be back here. I've just got back from Asia.

Crazymjb, I got mine at Acura of Boston. I worked with Debbie Robertson who was fantastic. I got my for $2K under MSRP at the time when they were selling like hotcakes. There was very little pressure to buy or to add options and the deal was made in less than 30 minutes. As for service there, I have found Doug Curtis (service writer) to be top notch. I always go to him.

I've heard good things about Claire also. They seem to have a slightly larger selection then Acura of Boston. But for convience, I have always gone back to my dealer. I have no complaints about them. Good luck.

the way that dealers treat you also has to deal with your age....odds are that they will treat an older/male customer with more respect than a woman or a 18 year old.....or even mid 20's......

Hey dsc888, good to know that Acura of Boston has good service. I need to bring my car in sometime to get my sunroof rattle and rattle by the passenger side seat belt fixed. Have you had any rattles fixed by Acura of Boston??

So far I have not had any rattles addressed although I might next time. I have the well documented sun visor vanity mirror rattle when the visor is opened fully towards the windshield. It will require the replacement of the whole visor as the spring mechanism is too weak to keep the flap from slapping when I hit a bump. Other than that, my car's only real rattle in the center console upper storage bin has worked itself out. Make sure you talk with Curt Douglous when you go to their service dept. He cares the most and is very courteous.

Don't worry about it. They should not treat you any different as their job is to fix the problem on the car. Once the car is handed over to the tech, he doesn't care whether it's bought by a 20 year old or an 80 year old. Just call ahead and make sure the Doug is working in the service dept. He sits on the far right at the 2nd or 3rd service desk. Be friendly and confident and you will be just fine. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Tell him that David with the white 04 TL sent you. If he asks which one, tell him it's the Asian guy who knows one of the techs who used to work there. He'll take good care of you.
