Just got a Ticket/ WINDOW TINT!!!

I just bought my car on Fri and got my windows tinted this passed Saturday. I decided to go to lunch and on my way to lunch i got pulled over by CHP on a street no where near a freeway WTF (he was going to lunch i guess). He gave me a ticket and was on his way. I didnt even see him. He came up from the side and we were both stopped at a red light. I didnt even have a chance to put the windows down.

FYI window tint its the darkest you can get (limo tint)
PS. You bet i am going to get the fronts tinted again with limo tint. (my girlfreind can get it done without anyone looking in)

I love posts like this.

I did something illegal to my brand new car
I got caught
That suxx!!!
Pity me!

Dont get me wrong though, I had my front windows tinted on my civic and my TL has clear front corners and neither car has a front plate, all of which are illegal in CA, but when I got snagged for white rear turn signals on the civic, I didnt go around complaining about it though.

As we speak my buddy is calling a police officer(friend) to write off my ticket. The tint shop was going to charge me $40 for the removal and $70 for the installation. I hope i get it written off.

CHP is known to do that. When I was in college in LA, my friend's M3 had limo tint all around. Never been hassled for 4 years. Closest time was at a 7-11. LAPD (who happened to be congregating there), told us that the windows appeared to be tinted too dark. However, he was nice, and said, "I personally don't give a sh*t, but I know a lot of CHiPies that will give you a ticket, so be careful"

Tickets for tinting seem pretty stupid. I could paint my windows black and probably would never get a ticket. Is it only New York and California that have these laws?

Same applies in MA as well. You can't have less than 25% here.

Tony, what dealer did you get yours at. less then 25 or more then 25. Also, how exactly do they tint the windows. Ive seen those purple ones and they look like crap, peeling off and air bubbly.

LA has the same problem... I had Med tint on my Integra and got pulled over by CHP for the tinf in LA, and my brother in law got a missing front lic place ticket while parked in pub parking at USC. All he had to do was mail in a picture of the car with a lic plate in front.

Wow, really? I never ever saw any LA PD guys driving around campus. (In case you can't tell, I'm a USC alumni... Yeah Trojans ) Only Campus Security. Though I suppose they can write tickets, since they were deputized by LAPD...

Which parking lot was he in? Maybe we just got lucky.. None of us had front plates, and we parked on campus for 4 years. Only time we got hassled was in Little Tokyo, by a police office who practically chased us down while we were crossing the street after we parked. I told him I just got into an accident and the plate fell off... He didn't believe me, so I took out the license plate from the trunk, (which I pre mangled up and smashed)... I guess since they were out of state plates, he didn't hassle me about not getting new ones from the DMV...

now in los angeles area the parking enforcements will write tickets for 25$ for now having front license plate. now it`s a FINE! not a fixing! same goes for tint and exhuast, its a set fine.

so now what i do is never put of any plates! lol! it feels way better! passing red lights not worring about pictures! and when parking enforcements coming to write me a ticket i just get in the car quick and gas away! haha!

That sucks, same thing happened to me. I'm from Orange County also and recently on Christmas Eve I got pulled over by a CHP on the 405 for having illegal tint on the front windows. Mine was Dark, closest to Limo. There's nothing you can do about it really.

From the advice of the forum that I received, I decided to pay the bail amount of $109.50 at the Westminister court rather than strip the tint.

I didnt know you can pay bail and not strip the tint. I thought you always had to strip the tint. I hope i can pay bail instead of striping and re-tinting.

I thought the fine increases with each offense? With the third one being something crazy. I think the third offense also requires stripping. But I think the police always have the discression to make you strip it earlier. For example, I heard that some people that get pulled over with limo tint, actually had the cop put a razor blade to the window, and strip it himself...

I just got my speeding/window tint ticket in the mail.

It says "$200 without corrections" "$120 without corrections"

I would rather pay the $200 and not hassle with my tint. However, the way it is worded, I am wondering if it all goes away after paying bail or that my fine is increased to $200 if I can't have the tint corrected by the due date.

I'd hate to pay the $200 only to find out later that I still need to get the tint stripped off and signed off.

Anyone know?

My ticket was from the CHP on highway 395 outside of Bishop, CA.

Actually, in MA I believe it is 35%. And most inspection stations only ever measure the fronts, they don't seem to care about the backs.

You got a ticket and STILL did not learn a lesson. That cop now knows where you go to lunch and will probably be watching to see if you've corrected the tint. If you don't "grow up", he will just ticket you again and again and again and ... Get the point son? What an idiot!

Explain...is it easy to get?

For years now I've been "paying" to have my car inspected at gas stations, etc. as oppose to doing it for free at the DMV so I wouldn't have a problem pasing inspection with my tinted windows.

Mass is definetly 35% and they're a bunch of SOB's about it even the gas stations. My tint ended up being 33% (no idea how this happened) and I ended up failing inspection. Had to drive around the entire day asking gas stations if they would look pass the the 2% points. It wasn't until the 6th place I stopped did the guy say no problem, I'll pass you.

I love the look of cars when the windshield is also tinted, but not to dark that you can't see at night.

TL lover- I live in the I section.

Call any one of the 609 #'s for motor vehicles and ask for the medical department. They will transfer you.. Tell them you have light sensitivity and that you need an exemption form for window film..

i was driving through Sun Valley, California on Sunday. As i drove down Penrose Ave. I saw a cop chilling in the road. He waved me to the side of the road. He told me to put my car in park and chill. He couldn't have pulled me over for my limo tint because i rolled down my windows. He got me for no front license plate. He was telling me that people were running red lights and the red light cameras couldn't catch them because they didn't have front license plates. No front plate means the cameras can't identify the car. But he was being real cool with me though. I have to get it signed off by April 27.

Oh yeah, and if you guys cops, check out my Police Vehicles gallery.

I am starting to wonder if some people just like getting hassled by the police all the time...

Personally, I try to avoid anything that would cause a cop to give a me a 2nd look...

happy with the legal 35% on the side and 5% on the back on mine...
