Angel Eyes Installed over weekend
#43
Thanks for the comments! Yea, at first I wasn't that big of a fan, but after seeing all the pics of those who have done it, I thought of taken on the project. It was great just to take things apart and learn more about the car and how its put together. I paid to have most of the mods done, but became more confident in my abilities lately It was a good learning experience.
I think there is a uniqueness to the angel eyes on the TL even though it copies BMW. I bet it's only a matter of time before these come standard on other makes as prices of the components continue to become more affordable. LED strips definitely took off with the car makers after Audi introduced.

Xavier-thanks for keeping your own thread "on topic"....well done.
Really you guys--really? Hasn't this Audi/Audi, BMW/BMW conversation has already been covered....no, beaten up enough????

^yup, orionV2. maybe it's my camera or something...or the zkw-r lenses make them look different?
and x2 on these funny threads. idk how anyone can say they don't look nice on our headlights? if you get the right product (orionV2...the thick ones)...then it'll look great. you should see how many people on the road break their neck to get a second look at them.
it's actually pretty amusing the amount of...
-stopped at redlight, dude pulls up next to me
-dude puts down his passenger window and gets my attention
dude - "hey man, those headlights are sick! where'd you get them? are they custom? blah blah blah blah..."
it has happened more than a handful of times and i've only had them installed for a few months.
nobody has ever said, "eww man those things are hideous. take them off right now!"
anybody on this forum who says they don't look right has obviously not seen them in person.

it's cool man, i think i'll pull through and sleep ok tonight.
you wanna know the cool thing about those red halos? getting pulled over and given a fix-it ticket since they're illegal in so many ways.
also, i don't like the angle on those angel eyes. do you like the angle on those angels?
lastly, i don't like the BMW halos, they look like hollowed out frisbees stuffed in the headlight housing. too big and bulky.

BMW's look sick, they are the ones hwo started it and they do everything top notch. I even looked into moding the tails to what X6 has( little tubes with led bulbs at the end looks craaazy)

OP good going, looks great!, keep modding!!!!

^you must have a horseshoe up your ass bc i assure you, having bright red lights on your headlights is def not legal.
i was going to get them too, until checking state laws deterred me away from the idea. they do look nice, but i don't want to be hassled.

If angel eyes are only for BMW's and LED strips are only for Audi, are spoilers, fog lights, HID's, tinted windows, quad exhaust tips, front air dams, side skirts, etc, etc only for the first car brand that had them as well? If someone likes the look go ahead and use it. It's not like people are taking styling cues from a Kia or something.

Its more and more comon for this kind of mod so the cops at least in NY are not as picky about it. Also i have it on up until it gets really dark so it looks more like a daytime runing, and if you ask me if any it makes the car more visible for other drivers and pedestr.

Red looks cool I thought about getting blue angles for my bimmer....but I am not sure. I have blue flashing sidemarkers installed so I don't think the cops here care to much. I also know a guy who has a 330xi with red angles and he has been fine so far.

So all we need to buy is the rings right or the whole headlight itself? Someone fill me in on this i'm a noob when it comes down to modding . I would like to install some nice dark blue ones onto my car.

An OEM headlight is around $500. You have to pay for quality parts that actually look decent. These LED bars are very well built.

Yup, just buy the rings and install. You will have to follow some of the DIY threads and instructions to take off your bumper, take out the headlights, bake them to separate the lens from the housing, then glue the rings on. When done, put all back together and wire up. It sounds harder then it actually is...just take your time. I was able to spend the weekend doing the whole thing and making sure all the glues and adhesives had enough time to dry.

Look up "Roger555" he has a thread about his build, I also think he shows the internals as well. Once you see them, $260 is worth it.

Here's a little diagram on how I wired up the Halos with the DEI 528T Pulse Relay Timer. When turning on the car, there is still a quick blip of the halos, but they don't flicker a few times like before while the car is cranking. After a few seconds, they come on. If someone wired differently, let me know since I just went off some other information on the web.

No unfortunately I didn't get a relay or a harness...wasn't too happy about this. It states on the Umnitza site that one is included, but then was told it's not usually included. I guess for people who go to order, they should specifically request to have one included.
For this reason, I had to sort of create my own and then throw in the DEI 528T. At least I'm glad that the wiring matches that of your JPT... Thanks for posting up your diagram... definitely much better and professional looking than mine..lol

The BMW ones sometimes look yellow, which I don't like that much.
