Angel eye improvements?
Angel eye improvements?
I've been contemplating on doing the angel eye mod and after a lot of research I've seen a lot of people say they don't last very long. The threads I've seen with those statements are 3+ years old so I was just curious if anyone out there knew if the technology got any better for this mod?
Thanks

Get the LEDs and make sure to get them re-soldered (the led strip inside). Common problem with them is that they decide to get loose and you'll get the half-eye effect.
As most know have had the same CCFL angel-eyes for YEARS. I am actually AMAZED how long mine have lasted, I honestly didn't think they would last longer than 3yrs.
I have had high failures on the ballast. The original Uminitza ones were garbage and hardly lasted long. I upgraded to a different brand that is weatherproof with a metal housing. Those have lasted longer but still they get screwed up over time. I have had to change my ballasts 4-5x over all these years. The good thing about it is at least you don't have to reopen the headlights if it is the ballasts. Check the old threads I've talked about it a lot.
If you see the rings they have seen some use. They're always on with the headlights on. I have 120k miles and the car is nearing 8yrs old. I have taken my headlights apart for different reasons and baked them at least 4x. In 2010 they looked like they wouldn't last any longer but they still work. So I am amazed, original rings, still working (knock on wood.)
If I had to do it again, I would STILL choose CCFL anyday. They are not too bright and blingy yet they are bright enough to be visible in the daytime. They have a very thin form factor, light up evenly and look elegant. They don't look BMWish or aftermarket. They have almost an OEM look to them because they fit right into that projector ring without blocking the headlight beam. They look good with the headlight off and you hardly notice them.
LED rings are more easier to work with and SHOULD last longer. If you are going to do CCFLs just know that you will have to be VERY careful handling them. They are very thin glass and can break easily. Also know that the ballasts are the headache.
