Am I getting ripped off or getting a good deal?

Previously i mentioned about installing a CSL spoiler on my 08 TYPE-S. So my body shop first called $300 to paint the fiberglass spoiler and to install it. Then few days later they called me back saying that they thought the csl spoiler was going to cover all the holes on the trunk upon removing the type -s spoiler. However it only covers two bolt holes. Bottom line, they suggested that i seal all the holes and paint the deck of the trunk. Which is going to cost me additional $200. Altogether, the total comes to $500 to paint the spoiler, seal all the holes and paint the deck of trunk. Am i getting ripped off or does the price sound reasonable?

I have zero knowledge in this department, but 500.00 for anything is expensive. Something seems fishy.

rip off IMO, it should only be about $50-100 to paint in the first place, not sure about the hole filling and all but paint job definitely seems off.

a body shop painted me aspec kit front and back (gray areas) AND my grille for $260...your spoiler should be ALOT less. any reputable shop uses computerized paint matching to ensure proper color, so they shouldn't have to paint your entire trunk. get a few different shops to quote you and go with the lowest. that's what i did. good luck bro.

oh, and usually paying in cash helps that price drop a little

well the only right way to do it was to paint the top part of the trunk. All the shops i've been to are saying that its not just a plastic spoiler. its fiberglass which consumes alot of labor work to sand it down bondo and paint it over. I just picked up my car and looks beautiful. The csl spoiler just makes the car stand out. I will post pic when its sunny out. Bottom line i paid $500 for painting the spoiler, painting the trunk, molding the holes on the trunk (holes from removing stock tl-s spoiler). This was the lowest i was able to find. Overall great job, decent price. pix coming soon

Fiberglass is a PITA to work on. Can't wait for pics!! It's the best lip, IMO.

$500 is pretty good considering they filled the holes and painted the entire trunk.

NO....you didnt get ripped off. Its more than just a point and shoot job. Some of these respondants truely dont know what they are talking about. Its time...and time is money. In this case....it was more than just paint a part and bolt it on....it took some filling of holes and painting...which in fact...has a risk associated with it warrantee wise. Especially if they just fiberglassed or bondo'd the holes over and didnt actually fill them with metal rod during the welding process. Its a high vibe spot....and can be problematic if not repaired correctly.

Bottom line....it was worth it. Good work costs money...nuff said. In body work...you almost ALWAYS get what you pay for.

I'd say shop around and see what other shops would charge you. It also depends on the shop and their reputation. Bottom line, you pay for what you get especially with paint.

I dont think your getting ripped off, fiberglass IS hard to work with, however you should try shop around first, it all depends on how much service the shop has been getting latly. but PLEASE PLEASE make sure they repaint the entire trunk, not just the decklid. thats a cheap ass job
