All nearby Honda/Acura dealerships saying $1.4k for timing belt/WP?
I live in the Denver , CO area and my TL just hit 103k, so I figured I’ll start looking into the 105k maintenance repair. It seems like based on this forum and other websites the timing belt and water pump should be around $700, but the last three places I’ve called are $1.3k or so. With spark plugs and valve adjustment it’s $2.2k. What’s going on here? These are both Honda and Acura. Any local Colorado people have good places?

That price is pretty high, I paid $680 at my local Acura dealer. I think the labor cost was around 6-8 hours depend on which book they use.
If you ever decide to pull the trigger on the TB/WP job make sure ask for the old parts back, according to the price you given above the flowing items SHOULD be getting replaced.
1. Timing Belt
2. Water Pump
3. Timing belt tensioner (every important that they use a new one)
4. Thermostat
5. Replace engine coolant
6. Timing belt idler and roller
7. Cam Seals
8. Serpentine belt
IF you planning to keep the car for a long time, you should look into getting the oil pump assembly reseal.
I know experience Tech can knock it out around 4-4.5 hours but I also see a lot of shortcut 3.5 - 4 hours all they do is replace the belt (IF you lucky they replace the TB tensioner). I am not saying its common practice for all the dealer and tech.

Yes I did get all the old parts back as this to make sure I get what I paid for the service but after that couple service I get to know the Tech working on the car and they pretty good so I still check afterward but no longer ask for the old parts back. Even the service advisor now know that every time he said "item need attention" He only tell me how many hours for the job. They wanted $140 for a TPMS but got quiet when I show them the receipt that I paid $30 from a Honda dealer in IL.

Over $2k from Acura and just over $1000 from Honda for me in KC. Some dealers will let you bring your own parts...some won't. My Honda dealer didn't care if I brought my own parts...but they didn't warranty anything if I did. Even my local independent shops around were the same price as Honda and they weren't going to use OE parts nor was I going to get a loaner for the day.
This topic has been beat to death over the years. Lots of good info in here already on the prices to expect, the prices to be shocked by, and what it costs to do it yourself.

The reason for the price difference because I brought my own parts and have them installed. They wanted $525 for the TB kit, I went out source with AZ vendor for the whole kit for $280. Its all OEM parts with Honda parts # so they had no reason to refused.

I did mine just a couple weeks ago. I have a connection at a part source that got me the continental elite timing belt kit for an 08 TL just under $300. Then took it to my mechanic and he did it for $300 no tax labor with coolant. Bought sparkplugs myself because they are easy to change and cheaper on amazon, about 110$ for 6 NGK IR 6996 (or whatever the number was). So not bad since I'm planning to sell the car this summer.

I paid $1100 for the same job 7 years ago for my 07 Accord V6 at my Honda dealer outside of Chicago.
So I said f this when the second timing belt job came around. I read through 54 pages of info in the timing belt/water pump thread here, bought the tools and parts then did it myself in about 10 hours. Total cost on parts was about $225 which includes 2 gallons of coolant.

Continental auto tensioner's tensioner pulley has a CHINESE bearing in it by the way. They hide it and use a chinese bearing there because the bolt hides it and most people don't bother to take out the bolt and check. So the timing belt kit's tensioner and idler pulleys probably also have chinese bearings for cost saving.

I had the full package done on mine a couple months ago for ~$950 at my dealer in Portland, OR. Competing prices were between 1000-1500 at mechanics in my area. Stuck with dealer mostly for the loaner car usage. I'm sure it varies by area but an extra 50% is ridiculous when in the same coutnry. Not like the parts are locally sourced for anyone.

The pricing is all over the place. I'm going to have my 08 done in a couple of weeks. I got the AISIN kit from Rock Auto along with an oil pump seal. I picked up a Honda thermostat. Total cost of parts was about $200.00. My mechanic quoted me $500 labor to install. Definitely check around. If you have a mechanic you trust you can save a lot of money.

Based on this post and some other posts I did the Ainsen kit plus the gates drive belt and tensioner kit on Rock Auto. Also did oem plugs and Honda thermostat. Total cost was about $950 including the fluids. Seemed to be the best option here in Denver.
