Aftermarket Shift Knob Comparison

Hello all,

I am in search of a new shift knob for my TL-S as the OEM one is very worn. I've come across two knobs that I like and am reaching out to see if anyone has had any experience with either. I don't see either as a bad option, main difference being one is almost $120 more than the other. Also not sure if the Honda one is weighted or not. Thanks in advance

Scratch that last part, overlooked in the item description that it said it's weighted lol

I'm not a fan of the weighted knobs, I've driven cars with and without, and the shift feel seems much more natural and gives a lot more feedback with an unweighted knob.

I've yet to try one. I don't mind the stock one, it's a little small but I like how it feels. Honestly I'm more so looking for something aesthetically pleasing; those two came off as nice to me. Anything you'd recommend personally?

Well, you asked...

Personally I'm fond of the shift knob from the 2011 (or there-abouts) Accord V6 Coupe. Unfortunately they were something like $300 last time I checked.

Hmm. I’ll take a look at one and see what their current prices are.

I am OEM shift knob guy but I did buy a fullrace weighted knob and I have to say I did like the feel. May keep it on there for a while but the OE s2000 shift knob is by far my favorite. even feels better than a FK8 ctr shift knob

Nice. I was thinking about going OE. I think the one I listed is from a civic, I'll look into the S2K knob as well. Might just do that because I can't personally justify spending 250+ on a shift knob.

I should ask, is it just a direct swap or is an adapter needed? I know the thread size is the same, so just wanted to be sure.

The OEM CTR shift knob from heel toe is a direct bolt on, not too sure about the collar tho. I am unsure if the collar is a big deal to you. As far as the Raceseng-- yes that will definitely require an adapter because those are universal to any car. Not sure if that $250 would include all adapters and collars or if that's extra.

Imma probably go with the other one that I listed. There is a Hybrid Racing collar available from HT that I can get along with it I guess? I don't really want to have a sagging boot, so if I need one i'll buy one. Yeah Raceseng doesn't include the adapters; still separate. So it ends up close to $300 which is a waste.

I agree. $300 plus for shift knob is pretty insane. Send us a pic, let us know how it feels compared that OE one.

I personally like a mildly weighted shift knob. Something in the 300g range feels pretty good me. Thread pitch for Honda shifters is m10x1.5, any threaded shift knob with that pitch should work.

I feel like it's very much a personal taste thing. If you could have the opportunity to try someone else's weighted knob that would be great but situation might not permit, lol.

I got hooked on a heavier shift knob via the BMW ZHP shift knob which I would install on my TL now if I could find an adapter to make it work.

Search is your friend, there's a great thread here about the raceseng shift knob:

Yeah I read through a few, seems like a lot went with the slammer. Seems very functional but i didn't like the look personally. Only asked to see if anyone tried that alcantara one as i didn't see any on my search.

I unfortunately don't know anyone else locally running a weighted knob. But, I'm sure I'll be okay with it. I'll place an order for this honda one and see how it turns out. Will post pics once it gets here and I find time to install.

A previous owner of mine put this one in. It doesn't get too hot in the sun. It seems a little heavy at 1.2 lbs.

I considered this as well. I ordered the one from the Type-R with a new collar to ensure it fits properly; gonna see how this one works out.

So I got the knob in, looks and feels great. I also bought a new boot collar to avoid the sagging issue that tends to be a common trend upon replacing the OEM shift knob. However, I'm unsure how to remove the stock collar. Searched a bit on here and saw people use the "zip tie" method for their sagging boots, but couldn't find any solid write ups on how to remove the boot itself to replace the collar. I did come across one post that stated something about removing the entire center console in order to do it? Is this accurate or is there a better method? This is the new collar posted below

You have to pull down on the collar. It attaches to the shift knob by the two clips, molded on the shift knob.

If there's anyone out there who wants to penny pinch in regards to the stock shift boot and collar - I was able to keep my stock boot in place with some strategically placed fabric tape where the collar meets the lever. Not an elegant solution, but a cheap one!

if you’re referring to removing it from the knob itself ive already done that. I’m inquiring about removing the boot itself if need be so I can replace the actual collar with the aftermarket one I bought.

Fold the boot inside out. Look to see how it is attached. The collar may be held with contact cement from the factory. If so, you'll need to separate it by gently using a fine pick (or similar device) between the collar & boot leather.

This is how mine looks on my car.

Using a heavy zip tie is easy and more than enough to hold the boot leather snuggly around the stock collar.
No one is going see it for critical analysis.

Low and a short throw.

I tried prying on that little silver piece that seems to hold the boot down and was afraid to break it. Looks like I'll have to physically take apart half the console. Strange that there's little info on replacing the actual collar itself

It feels good. Tbh i'm still undecided as to whether I like weighted knobs or not, but I really don't mind this one. Well made and easy to grip. I did also just replace my engine mounts so I can now feel the full effect of what drivetrain mods I've done so far.

I liked the OEM knob and would've kept it if it wasn't so badly worn.
