Aftermarket shift knob for 6MT

Has anyone found a source for aftermarket shift knob that fits the 3G TL? I don't like the feel of the factory knob -- the seam is rough right in the palm of your hand. I know it's a picky-ass complaint, but it would be nicer with a smooth knob, maybe a carbon fiber...

Thanks!

I assume 6 MT...
I HIGHLY reccomend the skunk2 weighted shift knob (Honda/Acura). It's heavy stainless steel.. the extra weight makes the throw smoother/easier. It's the perfect complement to the Comptech short shift kit.

That looks really nice. How did you make the ring and boot stay up like that?

I also recently purchased the skunk2 shift knob and highly recommend it as well. The throw does seem smoother and easier with the extra weight from the shift knob compared to the stock knob.

It comes with a locknut. You slide/force the plastic boot ring over it. I actually have since removed the locknut though as it allows you to screw the knob down another 1/2in or so. The ring naturally rides there, even without the lock nut.

I also took some time and VERY CAREFULLY painted the ricey red shift pattern a nice blue to match the A-Spec steering wheel stitching.

Don't hesitate, they're about $40 from the auction site.

Thanks, guys!

It's the Skunk shift knob for me. My car is Anthracite with Ebony interior, so I don't think the red insert will be objectionable. Anybody have an opinion as to the best place to buy one of those?

man....i really want that knob, but i can't afford it right now, even at $35 (mainly b/c i want to get the laser inscribed 6 speed on it so that adds another $35/$40). Gotta make sure I have enough $$ to pay for mortgages and bills hah.

haha...I feel ya. I've had this knob for about 4 years now, had it on my S2000 before, then just slapped it right onto the TL before I even left the dealership!

for those with the voodoo knob, what about the little plastic boot ring. Does it just sit there, or does it connect somehow to the knob?

move this back UP on the list!

Does the voodoo knob have some way to connect the little boot ring, or does it just dangle. If it dangles, does it ever bounce against shift knob and make noise?

^ It dangles. Sometimes it clinks against the knob, but only at certain times. To me it is not really noticeable.

I have the Skunk2 knob and im having some issues with it not lining up correctly. I'm thinking about using some semi-locktight or pipe tape to get it centered properly. I'm also looking into some plyable foam rubber to create something for the shift boot ring to attach to and not be loose like it is now.

That's why you need the nut that came with the Skunk2 knob. You use it to center the knob and also the boot ring with a little force slides on it and stays put.

By the way the team voodoo knob is not as heavy as Skunk2, I think it's only just over 200 grams whereas Skunk2 is close to 450

Easy fixes guys...

I didn't use the nut, I like how it sits lower (almost an inch without the nut).

1) Use some teflon tape around the lower threads... (Don't rec. loctite, you'll have a hard time getting it removed

2) use some 3M doublesided tape for the shift boot ring. It's holds well enough.
