AFE filter for TL is coming.........
Just got this from my pals at AFE:
"We appreciate your support of our products.
We in fact do have a filter for the S2000. Part number is 10-10065, and this part is available and shipping now.
The TL is on our list for the future, but we do not have a date at this time."
************************************************** ***************
AFE's number is 877.512.8111 if you want to hound them a bit.
www.afefilters.com
The S2000 is a new listing, so enough of my amigos over at S2KI.com must have called them. I mean, there are as many 2004 TL's on the road as all of the S2000 production, right?

Ouch!
The one they list for the RSX is $54!!!
For that kind of money, I assume it's a re-usable filter like K&N? In the photos, they look like regular paper filters.
Why do you like them? What is their attraction?

They are like K&N, only better because they don't suck as much dirt into the engine. I think the flow is better as well. They are lifetime filters, you don't throw them out.

I posted on the AFE filters previously, but here is a summary of why i prefer them to the K&N:
1) They use better gauze - my understanding is that K&N used to use the same Egyptian cotton (considered the world's best) but has now gone to an Asian source. Accel makes a fine gauze filter, and it uses the Egyptian cotton. I have examined several samples of current K&N and AFE gauze under lab grade microscopes, and found that the secondary "suckers" on the AFE were greater in number and widely distributed on the "branches" - to use commont plant terminology).
2) They use a better pleat design, with more surface area but without making the errors some other imitators of K&N make, where they have so many pleats that airflow is dimished
3) They use high quality polyurethane material for the "bones" and the sealing areas, which have long life and make positive seals with little chance of gaps
4) They are RED - everyone knows Red is good for 5 HP
5) The cage is made of metal, not plastic
6) They are RED
7) Of course, they are cleanable and re-usuable after drying and re-oiling
8) Many of them are available with a radiused "throat", helping create a kind of velocity stack effect - minor to be sure
9) They are RED
10) They can be referenced at www.afefilters.com
11) They are costly - so that is good for the Bling-Bling crowd. Naw, that is the only downside - but given the qualty and the service life, I do not see why one would scrimp on this side of the equation
12) They seem to have high quality standards - I have examined many of them, both new and after heavy track use, and they always have looked solid and ready for more thrashing.
13) They are RED
14) As best I can tell (and you know I am not an anecdote freak), they have not issued a product, then found it does not fit the airbox, and then secretly redesigned the product to fix the goof. It is my recollection that K&N's 1st product solution for the 3G TL was the exact opposite - peeps found the recommended panel filter did not fit right, allowing unfiltered air to enter the induction system. Unless someone can show me the contrary, I am not aware that K&N sent a "TSB" or warned retailers of their product of this "mistake". Who knows how many people are driving around with a 2nd-rate fitment, dumb and happy?
Oh, one other thing......did I mention that they are Red?

New Filter from Champion coming
I was speaking with Champion filters people today. They make the Mobil 1 filter. I told them that AutoZone was telling customers to get the M1-104 filter for the Acura TL 3.2. He said that they only list the M1-110 for that application.
I asked if that filter was their best product. He said that it currently is although it is made under different brands and different retail prices.
He also said that they have a new filter ready for market called "Extended Service" which will be a better filter. Unknown which brands will pick this up other than Champion.
Anyone heard of this?
