The new M/Fuga and TL are in totally different classes. No comparison is necessary. The RL does have some (cheaper) competition, though.......I
I disagree that the old M45/Gloria it replaces is "anonymous". I thought it was a hot-looking, wicked fast car, but I guess I'm just weird.

"The new M is the best thing Infiniti's done and comes close to making BMW" - from the article....
As an owner of an '03 M5....(and a , now 90 minute owner of a 05 TL, woohoo!) I would like to get my hands on some of the drugs those editors are taking.
They are trippin'.....
I do also have to agree with statements being made that the (laughably compared) M has a 'different market buyer' .

Drifting
There's always next model year. 05 was Infiniti's turn.

I went to a local dealer and checked these out a bit and will have to go back for a drive.
The car is very nice (they even got rid of the seat controls on the front corners).
I am always happy when something nice comes out that continues to push other manufacturers.
It is pricey but it seems mostly a Lexus GS segment car to me.
It terms of the target buyer, that would seem correct (high income professional guys).

looked at the article
That picture was the spitting image of a G35 sedan. Same power train as well.
Now if the G is basically loaded out at about 36,000 - 38,000 I wonder what the additional 5 grand will provide. yeah maybe a tad bigger and more toys
I do see it taking sales away from the for those in that income bracket. There is nothing right now in the 5 series size in the 40K range with some serious quality and performance to it. A 5 series beamer with the v8 is 56K. The 530 is a great car it just needs a larger engine. What else does it leave... yeah an A spec but that's a kid's car (sorry kids in the day I would have said that I wanted it).
I would like to see something like this car which in between a TL and an RL.

well... if you are making 175,000, chances are you live in a 600,000 home and you might have a couple of kids, saving for college, retirement, etc.
Who wants to buy a 60,000 car that will depreciated like all hell.
That said, after you pay for everything you might say... I want performance, but not 75,000 performance. I want something that is not going to rattle etc and look like millions of other cars people are driving, since 30K or a tad over is what many cars cost nowadays. So, 40K is the compromise. And if they have a wife she needs a car as well.... So, about 70-80k for two cars is where they spend their cash. Trust me 170,000 does not go as far as you would think....
It is not always about how you look in something.. yet there was a 21 yo last week that said he was giving up the E320 for a TL . Now that I agree... he went from looking like he was driving dad's car to something more appropriate.

Seriously, has anybody seen one up close? The outside is nice but man the interior is the same bland as G35. It even has that stupid analog clock!!!! I take the Rl with SH-AWD and the awesome 3.5 engine.

Rl
On my original post I was not attempting to compare the M35/45 with the TL, even though the standard non AWD M35 is only another $5K than the the TL (without NAV). My point is that Acura must have invested an enormous amount of money into R&D on the RL, their flagship, to only have it surpassed by Infiniti's newer M line in less than 6 months. The market intelligence on their competitors is obviously lacking.
If the M Series is also indicative of the next generation G line they roll out, the TL will be in trouble. That is, if Infiniti gets their head out of their ass regarding the ridiculously overpriced options they tack on causing the price to climb by $10K to get a comparably equipped car. Nonetheless, there is not much wiggle room left for Acura to manufacture cars like the TL and RL and keep their pricing steady. It has been estimated that after dealer incentives, Acura is only making $2,000 profit on each TL. This is one of the reasons their financials/profit margin are not as strong as Nissan/Infiniti's and thus the subsequent criticism by Wall Street. So, it is likely that Acura's pricing will inch upward and lesson the attractiveness of one of their only remaining advantages (outside of their highly rated NAV), thereby pushing prospective buyers to their competitors.

crazymjb - working on Dinan badging. But the Warranty is killing me, I am definatley waiting on any of the program needing mods, as it voids the warranty ( only 22K miles) , but the JRZ suspension is next on the list... only 2 more badge points away

I do think that Nissan is going the extra mile with the Infiniti line.
My primary bias is that Nissan is building front engine rear wheel drive cars and adding their awd system that provides 100% of the power to the rear wheels some of time.
It may be a small point but they use real wood instead of that photograph of wood in the TL (I have the photograph of carbon which is somewhat less bogus).
I dirve the TL because you can't beat it for the dollar and as mickey3c pointed out, the depreciation on a high end car is a waste.
I see the RL as the old fart mobile because it is the only Acura without sport seats.
I agree that the option packages in the Infiniti were grabbed out of the Cadillac Brochure.
I disagree that someone in that income bracket would drive and Infiniti.
The target customer stats were likely handed to the reporter by the Infiniti marketing folks.
If Acura wants a high margin car, they can bring us the new NSX we have been suffering waiting for.

Just saw the commercial... The body looks sorta, bubble-ish from the side view, almost like a jelly bean. How do you like the styling?
