TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Acura sales of 17,057 units were up 4.1 percent over last year, setting a new July record and marking the division's third best sales month ever, Acura announced today. Year-to-date sales totaled 113,795 vehicles representing a 15.8 percent increase versus 2003.
For the tenth month in a row, the TL performance luxury sedan was Acura's top-selling model, selling 6,282 units, with sales up 47.5 percent compared to last July. Year-to-date TL sales surged to 45,183, a 43.9 percent increase over 2003, making TL the best selling performance luxury sedan in the country.

The TSX sports sedan enjoyed its second best month ever with sales of 3,514, while also posting a record July. Year-to-date TSX sales reached 18,266. "Bolstered by its strongest product line-up ever, Acura is having the hottest summer of its history," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, auto sales. "With the addition of an all-new RL and updated RSX this fall, Acura will be hotter than ever."

They sell so many, yet you rarely see them on the road.

The interesting news of the day on the BMW boards is the -49% drop in July sales of BMW 5-seriesesesusususs.

5-series sales

I'm seeing a lot of TLs on the streets. No lack of TLs here in NorCal. Time to mod mine.

I wonder if the drop-off in sales the last 2 months is because people are waiting for the the '05?

Just wondering, is there still a long wait for TLs w/navi?

We don't see too many cause it is still the first year. They keep selling like this and they will be all over like the 2nd gen TL's, which I see many of.

http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_li...l?id=20040803c

Lexus Division passenger car sales were up 6.8 percent with total sales of 12,160. The ES 330 luxury sedan posted June sales of 6,673, up 13.8 percent. Sales of the LS 430 flagship luxury sedan increased 39.6 percent, with 2,671 units sold.

Lexus light trucks reported best-ever July sales of 12,963, up 9.2 percent. The RX 330 luxury SUV recorded best-ever July sales of 9,490, an increase of 9.2 percent. The GX 470 mid-size luxury SUV posted best-ever July sales of 2,817, up 12.9 percent.

So a lil over 25k sold in July.

The X3 is saving BMWs face. Check out this chart.

Just for comparison...

Infiniti Sales:

G35 combined sales: 6780 for July.

Seems like the G35 is selling more again.

For what its worth, there are 3-4 TLs in my parking lot at work, and I haven't even gotten mine yet. I see around 2-3 a day near my neighborhood. I'm almost reconsidering getting one :P It's more common than the G35 coupe around here.

All 3 are selling real well thanks to improved products. I heard Benz is doing like BMW too and Chrysler is the one helping them out.

It's really amazing how well the TL is selling.

They got the recipe right this time. Throw in a lot of cool features, sell it at a competitive price.

I'm guessing that it'll mean that TL parts will be easy to come by for many years to come.
Won't be very exclusive for those who like that kind of thing.

I think Acura is going to take an even bigger bite of the competition next year with their lineup. Their line seems to be getting more attractive to the general public.

If not talking about particular model, I always believe ppl in CA are more RWD-bound... I used to see lots of RWD vehicles in LA a long time ago.

This is lousy news!

I hate it when everyone else finds out that the cars I have been driving ARE THE BEST!!!

Seriously, Great news for Acura. If you make a quality product, people will buy (or lease) it.

No offense to BMW but @ $53G for a 3.0L V6 sedan (530i), I'll pass. More bad news for Bimmer, I'm seeing way more of the new E class on the road every day than the new 5 series; and many are the E500!!

As for the TL, I do see them regularly but I see WAY more of the new ES330. The irony is that Acura dealerships in my immediate area outnumber Lexus dealerships 3:1!! (Bridgewater Acura/East Brunswick Acura/Springfield Acura vs DiFeo Lexus) Come to think of it, I see way more of the RX330s than the newer MDX (265hp model) around here.

Peace.

I agree. The current styling (including the '05 RL rather than earlier versions) seems to appeal to a younger population. I, for one, would never have purchased an RL, based on styling alone, but the '05 looks great, and I would get one in a second (if my wife would let me ).

FOR THE MONEY, Acura makes some of the best cars on the road.

You left out the 350Z. That's gotta add a few thousand. Just having a little fun, but I still can't see combining these two to compare against the TL sales. Sedan vs. Sedan is what *most* people would compare. The G35 coupe competes with other coupes, and therefore needs to be compared as such.

We had a record month in the Jacksonville market as well as nationally. Our market is relatively small with a population of just under 1.1M and between both Acura stores here we sold 235 new Acuras with 97 of them 2004 Tl's. FWIW there are no other highline makes that are selling anywhere near this volume here...05 Rl should be another volume increase as well-things are looking real good.

Exactly. Just this past year, I've only seen about 4 TL's out on the road other than mine over here in the bay area. All I see around here are Civics, low-modeled Mercedez-Benz', 3 Series Bimmers, 350z's, Mustangs, Camaros, and Camrys. Maybe most of the consumers don't know much about the TL to appreciate it. But I'm happy that I don't see as much '04 TL's out there Makes it seem that my ride is a bit more unique amongst other cars out there.

Could you give us your definition of "highline makes"?

Being in the business, to you consider brand names to be "luxury" or rather, do you look at the models within the brand names?

Give some examples of "highline makes" please. Do you use the term synonymously with "luxury"?
