Looks pretty disappointing to me...
I think it looks even more like the TSX, which isn't exactly a good thing. In the pic shown also it looks as if it sits actually higher than the 04+.
On the upside the paddle shifters are cool. But not sure why that is necessary on a car that is barely much more powerful than the base version...

Type S is 'busted'
All Acura had to do is ad a 300hp engine and call it the 'Type S'. The new style is ugly. Tail pipes are ugly, those wheels are ugly (maybe they are dirty), and the new front bumper/rear bumber does not look as good as the current 'A-Spec' kit.

286hp on the front wheels ?? not smart at all........ what's acura/honda thinking ?? with that price most people would go for G35... can't beat the new 300+ hp VQ engine on rear or all four wheels.... just not the front wheels !!!!

I personally will wait until there is a total redesign and the car has SH-AWD and hopefully 300+HP before I upgrade. At that I probably would wait until the second year of the new redesign to shake the bugs out first. This is my first non-awd car since I was 19... not that I don't like FWD, but with anything approaching 300HP, I think AWD is a must.

personally i'm thinking about trading in my 02 TLS now for this new type S. and secondly, why is everyone all bent out of shape that it's not RWD? many of us live in the snowbelt and couldn't purchase the car if it were RWD. and i have a feeling that a large amount of acura sales are somewhere within the NorthEast snowbelt, so they need to cater to us a little bit. of course AWD would be the best solution but then you would have a slower car.....decisions decisions....

It's like somebody here did one big insane mod :p
I really dont like what they did. The overall look is sortof hashed/piecemealed together. Why couldnt they have just used the old concept design with the flared out wheel wells and aggressive trunk/lip? Now THAT looks like a mean type S. Hell even the rims were better on the concept.
Our Aspec seriously looks more aggresive than this. Ah well, on the positive side, if it had looked significantly better, I might be regretting not waiting.

i wonder how bad the steering will be on the type-S... since it was already a problem with the smaller 258hp 3.2 liter.... or did acura come up with a solution to solve it ????? hope the test drive review comes out soon

These changes are not really that drastic at all. The interior changes are very subtle as well. So the TL will have the same power as the Lexus ES. Big deal. I wonder how many people on here who bitch about FWD actually drive in situations where they'd really notice. I agree that in a perfect world RWD or AWD would be ideal but all this whining is silly. If you like the G35 so much then go buy one!

Again... I'm not knocking it... I love my car, it's just already overpowered for the FWD platform. Acura seems to be working towards an AWD option, it would be welcomed on the TL IMO.

Does anyone read this
If you want a performance sedan why would anyone buy this car over the new G35? It is obvious that the G35 is going to be a better car. Over 300 horse power and rear well drive verses 286 and front wheel drive. It doesn’t make any sense.
When will Acura pull their heads out of their asses and get rid of the front wheel drive. If they ever want to compete with the competition they are going to need rear or all wheel drive.
My current plan is still to buy the new G35 unless some other car manufacture can come up with something better for the same price.

Anyhow, the new pics make a huge difference, especially the rear. Im really starting to like it. I like the smoked theme on the Type S.

Hmm, after seeing the Autoweek info, here is my input.
Wouldn't like the red interior lighting (REALLY like the blue on my TL)
Still not really digging the front end.
Definitely don't like the round quad-exhaust
Don't like the wheels, they look dirty, not cool
Like the tail lights
Like the headlights (they stole this from modders)
Not digging the turn signal mirrors
Like the smoked rear side marker (see if we can steal these for our 06's as they stole this from modders)
Don't like the new seats.
Ok with the steering wheel and like the extra buttons on there.
Don't like the stictching on the doors
Shouldn't have skimped on the dead pedal, others look ok but could be better
Is that a stock reverse camera???
And is that iPod picture meant to imply an aux-in in the center console?

Is that a stock reverse camera??? <--- probably not.. like the backing up sensor, it's gonna be an accessory list???
And is that iPod picture meant to imply an aux-in in the center console? <--- they better make this standard.. and on top of that, they should make the audio system to read mp3 formats???
I have a question.. would they have cooled seats like Lexus?? Heated seats are nice.. but I think Cooled seats would be much appreciated

I wonder if RDS Text has made its way into the audio system? It was also be cool if the phonebook and dial pad for the HFL are now displayed on the navi screen. Does anyone know how this is set up in the MDX?

As a disclaimer, I've always liked the subtlety of the original TL-S and my '05 has no body mods. And to continue amending my prior post, the instrument panel now looks OK too, but I still don't like the Civic-style steering wheel.
And $39K??
I'm still very happy with my 05, and don't expect to get anything else until every other car I'd consider is redesigned again- TL, RL, G35, Avalon, CTS, BMW 3, Lexus I and GS, S2000, Hyundai...- so I'm not ready to jump ship yet.

I like the emblems on the seats and the paddle shifter but almost all of the other stuff are things that people will be buying in the aftermarket in an attempt to "pose" as a Type-S. The Engine moving from a 3.2 to a 3.5 is probably simply a change of headers (is the exhaust still welded to the header on the new model?) Maybe it's worth a minor premium, maybe it's not. Remember that dealers were ripping off the first A-Spec buyers by $5-$7K for the A-Spec kit installed and it wasn't even a performance option but rather simply a $800 body kit (mostly). $39K for a Type-S simply appears to be a one-for-one replacement of the old (overpriced) A-Spec so in that frame of reference, the Type-S may actually be a bargain (especially if you can tune the engine a little more with pulleys and CAI's, headers, etc). If there was a way to get this car to 350HP fairly quickly and cheaply, it may be worth "playing" with.

The TL is built using the Accord platform. This is not AWD friendly. So the car stays FWD for a little while longer. Big deal. G35 sales are tanking too. Maybe the new G35 will help Infiniti. The RWD crowd should just drop the TL and move on because that dog won't hunt anymore.

ARGH! What people seem to be forgetting is that this is an MMC! You guys seem to talk about it as if it was the new generation. We're lucky they changed anything at all. They coulda changed th taillights and seats and called that their MMC.
Wait for the generation change.

Okay, after seeing more pics of the Type-S, I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo glad I had gotten my '05 with the A-Spec kit and suspension. That is some really awful styling and it just looks like Acura had stolen the designs off of some of the pics here to see what a sportier version of the TL would be like. The only thing I'd want from the Type-S is the new engine mated to the supercharger.

Is no one else as excited about the upgraded navi system as I am? Maybe it's just because I'm a tech geek, but I'm about that! Not to mention the fact that Honda decided to stuff a very slightly detuned 3.5L V6 under the hood.
I definately agree though, the TL-S wheels are freaking hideous!!!

This TL type S is a big dissapointment.
If Acura wants to stay competitive they should have bumped it up a notch this year. BMW, Audi and Infiniti all released new cars this year. All with more powerful engines than Acura can muster. Waiting for a generation change will be too late for some. Acura should have spent the development dollars they spent on this in bringing the new generation TL to market sooner.

Let's just hope that next gen TL will be what we dream of right now.. RWD, 300+ hp, blah blah blah
