Acura/Honda Loyalist?
I am fairly new to the board and a new TL owner. One of the many intriguing things about the TL to me is how passionate the owners are about their cars. My question to the board: Of all the cars you have owned has there been one that you were as enthusiastic about as your TL? I have been a car nut for as long as I can remember and no car ever caught my attention like the current TL. I can remember the first 04 that passed me on the road. It was all a blur and I had no idea what kind of car it was but I just had to find out. It was the first car I ever “instantly” fell in love with.
For the most part the past 10 years I have owned all Honda cars (well except for one 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was the biggest mistake I have ever made automobile wise), and currently own a 99 Accord that I use for work. Acura never caught my eye until the 04 TL. My main curiosity is are the current generation TL owners previous Acura/Honda loyalist or did the new TL bring you into the Acura/Honda family?

All About Trance
I had loved the 2nd Gen TL, but they did not offer them in a manual. And at that time, I was driving an '89 Toyota Corolla GT-S 5 spd, which I had loved driving everyday until I had gotten fed up with it stalling on me during traffic jams. I was young and didn't know how to take proper care of manual transmissioned cars. As much as I'd beat that Corolla into the ground, it would not die. I finally got rid of it in '02 and got into an '01 Honda Accord (auto). It's a great car, but not as fun to drive as a manual.
And when the 3rd Gen TL came out, I was drooling from its exterior aesthetics to the goodies it had to offer inside. After much waiting (good thing I did), I was finally able to get my hands on one this year.

I'm a Nissan guy. I love the torque in their engines. But I always had respect for Hondas, and I liked the TL package.
So, I wouldn't call myself a loyalist, just a consumer who thought the TL was right for him.

Gratis dictum
The TL is my first Honda product and I love it. Well, actually it is my third Honda, the first being a Honda 65 back in the 60s and the second was a Honda lawnmower in the 70s. I don't think this history qualifies me as a loyalist, though.

Came from a Volkswagen family, drove my GTI for 11 years before getting a CR-V in 1999. While there is nothing quite like the driving experience of a German car, they are a PITA to maintain. The CR-V sold me on Honda reliability, which made the TL that much more appealing. Love it. Will probably buy Hondas for the rest of my life.

I have Hondas/Acuras from the very beginning. They are great cars and extremely reliable. I bought all of them new and never had any problems with any of them. At one time, we had 8 Hondas Accords in the family (brothers, sisters, and in-laws)
Here is my list:
1991 Honda Accord LX Manual Tranny (250K miles) - My first car. Totaled in an accident.
1994 Honda Accord EX Manual Tranny (150K miles) - Gotta have V6, so sold it and bought the CL
2002 Acura MDX Touring - Got married and bought it for the wife.
2003 Acura CL Type-S Manual Tranny - Sold it and bought the TL when I became a father
2004 Acura TL Manual Tranny - Best car ever owned. Lots of compliments from co-workers/friends who own BMW/Lexus/MB/Porsche.

Wow, some of you have had quite a few Hondas.
I'm 21, so I'm only on my 2nd car. The TL is the first Acura/Honda, but my brother has an '03 TL-S, which I absolutely loved. I'll probably hang on to this car for a while, picking up a weekend car a few years down the road... which will probably be a Honda S2k.

Keep Right Except to Pass
My Hondas:
1982 Accord sedan (5-speed; 157,000 miles; failed state inspection due to rust on the undercarriage; traded on the Legend)
1986 Legend (5-speed; 178,000 miles; got tired of the high maintenance costs and traded on the next Accord)
1997 Accord EX Coupe (5-speed; 99,016 miles; got rear-ended and insurance declared it a total loss)
2005 TL (6MT with Navi, current car)
The only non-Hondas I've ever had were a 1977 Ford Granada when I was in high school (my first car; 2 doors, four on the floor; sold it to my brother when I bought the 1982 Accord from our father) and a 1988 Mazda RX-7 convertible that I just bought from a friend a week ago to have as a second car in addition to the TL.
Honda loyalty has become big in my immediate family except for my mother:
1982 Accord (purchased by my father; he sold it to me when I was in high school)
1991 Accord (father's car to replace the 1982 Accord; traded it in 2004 on the TSX)
1996 Civic DX Coupe (my brother's)
1999 3.5 RL (father bought it to have a third car)
2004 TSX (father bought it to replace the 1991 Accord)
2005 Civic EX Coupe (my brother just got it last month to replace the 1996 Civic because he felt the maintenance was getting steep)
When my father first bought the 1982 Accord the rest of us were surprised because we thought he was not big on Japanese cars; previously the family cars were, first, a 1972 Volvo 1-series sedan and then a 1979 Volvo 2-series wagon (think it was a 265 GLE but I forget by now). Turned out that that Accord was one of the best things he ever bought.

first honda for me and i have been pretty happy. always been a fan of honda as far as their engines are concerned but was never a fan of fwd. i had to get a fwd car because of the winter storms up here in the northeast but i am pleasantly surprised at what an all around package the TL offers.

My family was always attracted to Mazda's ('89 929, '95 Millenia S) My Dad always liked Honda/Acura but never thought he would buy one until I pointed then out to him. Now, my garage/driveway looks like this:
2003 Honda Accord EX (Sister)
2004 Acura TSX (Mine)
2005 Acura TL (Dad)
2005 Acura MDX (Mom)
I guess you could say that we are loyal to Honda.

Me and most of my family members have owned only Honda automobiles. We including myself purchase them with about 10 miles and drive them a max. of 150K-200K miles. To date, besides some light bulbs burning out throughout the years I have yet to experience or hear from any family member about a mechanical problem. With reliability such as this how can one not be hooked on this brand? Of course we do follow the maintence on these cars exactly as stated in the owners manual. Even if in the future I would experience some mechanical problems with a Honda product I would not switch brands because all the positive experiences I have had in the past would outweigh any problems that might come my way. My 05 TL is my first Acura and I couldn't be any happier. The 2nd generation TL Type S really caught my eye but this 3rd generation TL caught my eye and my heart like no other car has been able to do.

I'm only 21 so I haven't had much opportunity to own vehicles. My 1996 Acura 2.5TL is my third vehicle. I used to own a 1990 Toyota 4Runner (slowwww and bad on gas, too many little problems after 250 000km), and a 1993 Suzuki Sidekick (first vehicle, it sucked ass. Worst POS I've ever touched).
I've driven lots of Hondas, mostly friends' and parents' friends' cars, and I've always loved the sporty nature and insane reliability. After driving my friend's 1989 Acura Integra LS, I was sold. My car has 194000km on it, and it still drives like almost new. Shifts are a little harsh, but nothing too bad. I only long for a manual, and I dream of 14 months later when I can buy an 06 TL 6spd with Nav.
My parents (who have a 1994 Chrysler Intrepid ES (mom) and a 1993 Toyota 4Runner (dad) ) both love my car. My mom begs to drive it. So does one of my little brothers. When it came time for him to buy a car, he ended up choosing a 2001 Acura 1.7 EL and is really pleased with it. My mom is thinking about a TSX for her next car when the Intrepid dies (which will be soon I'm sure, tranny is clunking and it's already been stolen once). My dad said that if he didn't need a truck, and had the money, he'd buy a new TL. Such a bargain for the money. My mom also drove the Accord and loved it, except for the size. She wants a smaller car. My dad might actually end up getting a Ridgeline at some point, in a few years when his mortgage is paid off. I'm sold on Honda for life. It will take a lot from Lexus to sway me.

My first car (not including hand-me-down for dad <'86 Dodge Caravan with simulated wood stickers>) was a 1990 Acura Integra.
I loved that car.... No crazy mods, just loved it. Got it new and traded it in to get my '05 TL. Never any worries, problems, issues. Driven up and down East Coast, parts of Canada. While I drove that car, friends were on their 2nd, even 3rd cars due to failure.
Hated to part with her, but after 16 years of service, it was time to move on to bigger and better things.
I have a feeling that I will be a proud Acura owner for a long, long time.

I kept my 92 Accord EX for a year after I got my 04 TL, just in case. I finally sold it because I always drove the TL and the EX was just sitting.
Funny thing is that the EX was actually was worth more than it was when I got the TL last June. It appreciated about $200.
My wife drives a 03 CRV after a bad experience with a 97 Caravan.
Both of my sons drive Accords.
