Acura Care extended warranty

Ok... well some of you know I am about to buy a TL... If any of you have the extended warranty or know the details... I know they will reimburse you for a rental vehicle if the car is out of service for warranty work.

For this, do you have to be the 100 miles away from home? Or will you be covered even if you are in your home area?

Thanks!

how long are you keeping the car? The basic warranty is for 4 years. By and large I think these polices are a waste of Money.

still cheaper to rent a car for the day if you need to for business. I would guess if you are doing 25k a year that you turn you cars over eveery 3-4 years. Suit your self but I still think it would be cheaper not to buy one of those policies. I just got rid of a 2002 It was subject to the recall ( we didd the service on a Sat. as a matter of fact htat is when I bought the new one) One or two warranty issues when the car was new and then only schecduald maintence for the remainder of the time. Of course you could get a car that has issues but in general I think cars these days are very reliable and do not have big issues in t he short term which is why the cars come with long warranty periods because statisticly they do nto need to use them. Also the dealers and insurance companies make a profit on the policies gambleing that your usage of the policy will be less then the cost on it. If your worried buy one that is what insurance is for. I am 53 and have had a fair amount of new cars that I have owned I never regretted not buying an extended warranty. YMMV

Like a casino, the house usually wins - same with these warranties. They would not push them so hard if they did not take in far more than they pay out. Think about it.

IMO,

Just because they profit heavily from the system, doesnt mean its necessarily wrong to buy extended warranties.

It's just like paying the $3/month for cell phone replacement insurance. They wouldn't be in business selling insurance if they didn't profit from it...but most people are willing to pay for it.

I bought the extended warranty - but I negotiated a $50 deductible and my terms are for 84 months or 100,000 miles - all for $1100.

Go to Costco for gas instead of Shell or Chevron for the life of the car...you will save that $1100 in no time...and if you truly believe that Shell is better than Costco, well, if you have any engine problems, it's covered

Arguments can go either way - and I respect that.

Hmm. I see. It is hard to judge this. I have had bad luck with the 3 cars I have owned (well the civic not really, it was just old and the tranny died... but it was old), the TSX was a dealer f* up, and the infiniti fx35 was simply a mfgr problem... damn leaking sunroofs... i suppose that the problems will show up within the warranty period...and seeing as how i have gone through 3 cars in less than 2 years who knows how long I will keep the TL. However, hopefully it will not be problem prone like the previous ones!

I got my extened warranty with my credit union when I got the loan. You may want to check to see if whom you are financing it with has it available. Although the dealer was trying to talk me out of it becuase they wanted the money. it would be for 84mths/100k miles. the dealer was like $1300 and the credit union was $510.. You do the math. I verified with the credit union of the companay that carries the warranty and they have been in business for over 20yrs.

I'd never buy an extended warranty. If any problems are going to show up, certainly they will during the factory 4 year warranty. Like RoadRage mentioned...extended warranties are a gamble that the house usually wins and that's why they push people into buying them. Most problems show up during the first year. Save the $1100..and read the fine print in the warranty to see what items are covered and what's not and you'll probably decide it's not worth the money.

7 yr/100 K refundable if not used

I bought this since it's refundable if not used in 7 years. I've in writing by my dealer. I thought this is win win hence I bought it.

Falconi's Acura of Las Vegas

Hi,

Has anyone bought a car or extended warranty from this dealership? I am considering buying an extended warranty for my 2005 SSM TL.

Thanks,
AC

While investigating extended warranties (of which I purchased the 7/100/$0 deduct), I found most did NOT cover navigation screens. Looking at Alpine's site, our DVD screen runs about $1500. If one of these puppies goes out after the 4/50, the extended warranty has just paid for itself.

So if it's not covered, how has it just paid for itself if it goes out? I must be missing something.

I bought it with the money I saved when they offered me a lower interest rate. I put at least 22k on my car a year. And I plan on keeping this car at least 6-7 years. That would keep me in warranty the majority of the time I own the car instead of the 2 years I would normally have with the amount of driving I do. I never did it before, so I'll find out this time around if it's worth it.

I bought the 5yr/100k extended warranty for $1050.....I've got 26k miles on my TL, which is 2 months shy of being a year old, so I'd be out of warranty in no time. The extra $1050 is well worth the piece of mind IMO.

Acura Extended warranty covers the NAV system. $1500 (nav screen) + $150 (labor, guessing at cost here....) = $1650.....

Does the Acura extended warranty from Curry Acura work in Texas?

Does the extended care warranty cover the same thing as what my dealer's 4/50000 would cover?

My dealer wants 1700 for the 7/100,000/no deduct. I know many people are against these things, and I completely understand as I would never buy a Best Buy service plan for the life of me. Forget about the money for a second, and let me know if everything is legit. Thanks everyone.

Acura extended warranty works anywhere in the USA.

I don't know if Acura lets you do this, but I've seen other makes, such as Infiniti, allow you to opt out of buying a new car extended warranty, but allow you to purchase a used car extended warranty, prior to the expiration of your factory warranty. Those are cheaper, and give you about the same coverage.

If you finance in the cost of the extended warranty, it comes out to what, an extra dollar a month? All you need is one major failure, and it will pay for itself. (Unlike those electronic store's performance gaurantees). I got it only because I"m paranoid about the tranny dying on me, because of my experience with the 03' TL we traded in.

You can return your extended warranty if you don't use it. However, they have a wierd way of calculating the pro-ration. When we traded in our 03' TL, it had like 55,000 miles on it. So we figured we only used 5,000 miles of the extended warranty. But they calculated it based on the total mileage of the warranty, which I think is stupid, because the factory warranty takes care of the first 50,000 miles. So they said we already used 55% of our extended warranty, and only gave us half our money back.

dAveSPEC says it all. Doesn't matter where the warranty is purchased....But if it makes you feel better, approach your local dealer with the offer from Curry Acura (don't forget the extra $$$ off offer you will receive by e-mail and screen print this) and ask for a match on this offer or you'll buy elsewhere. Most dealers are clearing $300 profit per contract....they won't turn it down.

As for my rational, there are several issues that could crop up during the life of my TL (transmission failure, driveline vibration, etc...) but the one i'm counting on is the LCD Navi screen. As you well know (living in Texas), we can get well into the 100's during summer and i'm just not sure how well those screens in that hot (over 160 degrees) of a car for over 100 days straight.

Some might think even if you sell the car before the original warranty is up, an extended warranty could be a big plus to prospective buyers. That'll only be true if you're able to get $1,000 more than you would've from a dealer on a trade....probably a wash......

if you plan on trading in the car before the original warranty is up, don't waste your money

Hi All,

Just picked up my AM5AT05 TL this week.

Here in Canada, (should be the same in the US), you are able to buy the extended warrenty anytime during your initial warrenty period.

Keep your money in the bank where it earns you interrest and if you feel that your car is going to break near the end of your 3 or 4 years, then get the extended warrenty. No point in getting it at the begining.

Vic

PS. The TL rocks!!!!
