Acura Battery Replacement Policy Change
Acura's policy on changing batteries has supposedly been changed from what it used to be, so no more free battery replacements for those of us with failing batteries.
Apparently if you have your factory battery replaced under the battery warranty, (3yrs free, 72 months prorated) whether free or prorated, the warranty still continues from the failed battery's installation date.
So suppose your battery was changed out at the 2 year, 11 month mark and you paid nothing. Then 3 months later your new battery fails, you will be prorated for 3yrs, 2 months of use and not for the 3 months.
You must buy the battery outright (99.99 + install at my dealer) without any proration from the old battery to have any sort of battery warranty in the future. If you take even the 5 dollar pro-ration that they offer, the new warranty will start from the first battery's installation date (most likely from the date the car was first brought into service)
As well the warranty on any previously installed battery in the car goes away at the 4yr mark when the car's warranty expires. That means you could replace your acura battery at the 3 yr 11 month mark and one month later, even though it's new, you won't have any warranty on the battery failing.
I'll be calling acura corp. to confirm this tomorrow since this seems very stupid. A failed battery should be warrantied from the date it's intalled, not from when the last battery failed.
Rant over!

AJ, I had my battery replaced twice. Once, within the first 12 months of ownership and the second was like earlier this year. I am outside my 4/50k mfg warranty but my S.A. said that the battery has a 4 yr warranty on it from the in service date. Don't know if this helps you or not.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Who is the manufacturer of OEM Acura batteries? Man, I need to remind myself to never buy that once out of warranty. I only buy two kinds, panasonic which is very hard to find usually only online and built like a tank, or an Optima from Walmart.

I got a new battery a couple of months ago.
I agree with you guys - the new battery should be warrantied from date of service for THAT battery.
If Acura is having so much trouble with warranty battery replacements, instead of screwing the customer, perhaps they should get a better battery in the first place.

I took my TL in last week to get my battery replaced and they wouldnt replace it. they tested and "couldnt find anything". Apparently according to them the battery is only supposed to last "5-10 minutes".... WTF? My 95 honda accord battery lasts at least over and hour and have no problem cranking the engine. I had my TL parked in the garage for two days and when I went to start it *click* *click* *click*!
Any recommendations on a replacement battery? Or do we really have to live with a under 15 minute window?
thanks,

^ I have had great luck with those Costco Kirkland batteries- they are not only good but pretty cheap as well. I guess after hearing about the new policy, I'll be buying one in the near future. My battery is showing some signs of weakness with the starter not being as zippy as when new. A $70 battery seems like cheap insurance for a dead battery in the future as winter comes on especially hearing all the people who are on their 2nd or 3rd battery by now.

Idle Relearn Process - THIS IS ESSENTIAL OTHERWISE IT WILL STALL!!!!
Turn off the a/c, radio and other stuff after disconnecting the battery and let the car idle for about 10-15 minutes.
The window auto up and down (check the 3G garage for the exact procedure)
I will because this is upsurd. I didn't get a chance to call them today due to a long day at work, but I'll be calling them tomorrow!

Stop complaining and do something more productive, such as writing the president and thanking him for wanting to increase our national debt ceiling to over 13 trillion.

I'm just about to go get my 3rd battery in a little over 4 years. Eventhough I'm out of warranty I'm going back to the dealership to see if I can get them to replace it, but from what I've been reading, I probably don't want another OEM one. It's probably worth it to get another brand than to have to keep replacing it every 18-24 months.

+2 on Kirkland batteries. I have one in my RSX, 1 in my CL, and I'm putting one in my Accord this month. They are made by Johnson Control, one of the few battery manufactures out there, and they are built well. Costco will not give you a hard time and try to weasel out of replacing it, if anything ever goes wrong with it. Group 35 for $57. Hard to beat that.

I had my '06 TSX at the Acura dealer for other warranty work in January 2010, and they said the battery was going bad and replaced it free of charge. Well now that battery is going out and the car is getting hard to start. So I called that same Acura dealer, and they said it would be covered again -- free of charge -- until January 2013. That doesn't jibe with what I am reading in this thread so I am wondering if I bother taking it to them. The issue is they are almost an hour drive from my house so that would be a lot of wasted time if I get there and find out it isn't fully covered. Anyone else get a free second battery within 3-years of getting their initial one replaced (and outside of the car's 4-year warranty)?

had my battery die not too long ago. it was a warranty replacement.
even though it says 100mo on the top of the battery, the replacement battery takes on the warranty of the battery that came with the car, so i was SOL.

Exactly why I don't use OEM batteries. I got my TL in december of 2011 and I was told shortly after I got it that it had a dead cell I ran it like this for about a half a year. 3 years for battery life is still pretty shitty. Was the original OEM battery. I replaced it with an optima. Your better of getting an aftermarket battery you can get higher capacity and more reliability out of them.

My battery is failing, and it is an OEM Acura battery with the 100 month warranty language.
Looks like it is a replacement warranty, which would result in the fight described above - date goes from initial factory battery, not one replaced under warranty (it's a 2018 RDX, replacement was from 11/2019).
ON TOP OF THAT - the battery warranty is NOT transferable. In my case, the original owner installed the replacement - I bought the car used in 2021.
So, for the unasked question, the Acura battery warranty is NOT transferable.
Thanks,
-Dan
