Is the Acura 2004 TL a better buy?

Ahh. So you think your car is better than the TL.

Is it really or is it just Cognitive Dissonance?

This thought is a little cerebral, but ...... the reason non-TL owners dislike our car is because they need to justify that they made the right decision in not buying it.

Here is the definition.

the reason non-tl owners dislike TL owners so much is because TL owners think they are so mighty or smarter by buying some great bargain car. if what you're saying is true, then why aren't you driving a hyundai? they're a hell of alot cheaper and come with an assload of crap at a cheap price. example being, i bought a honda civic you bought a hyundai. yea, the hyundai comes with more stuff than a civic, but you'd still be driving a hyundai

just check depreciation on Hyundais

it's not just a matter of being cheap, it's a matter of getting "quality" at a reasonable good price.

For the near luxury category, they are the best buy.

Of course, do you really NEED 270 hp, DVD audio, leather etc etc.

If you're concerned about this, buy a Civic DX with a manual transmission, you don't NEED A/C or power windows/locks etc.

See where I'm getting at? Even the cheapest person I know (my Dad) admits he WANTS certain items, air conditioning, V-6 and power driver's seat.

Buy what you can and what you want.

I think the the TL is a good buy considering the price and the options the cars comes with. Compare it with the other manufacuters.. I prefer cars which come all loaded with goodies... Instead of adding this and adding that the price will increase

Not when you live in Oregon, land of constant rain, mountain passes and very nasty ice on those passes. You'll be begging for a 6 cylinder and ABS out of necessity.

Ahhh. There is no "dissonance". Cognitive Dissonance is when a person is uncomfortable with their choice because of the discovery of new information. They then have to somehow justify their choice. Hyundai owners don't do this because they don't give the new TL a second thought. It's more so those G35's, Maxima's, BMW'ers and ??? that might fall into this category.

Excuse me?

It is a term that means just what it says. Its not a luxury car but it offers many of the features found in one. Its not a bull term at all.

So by the same reasoning, if a G35 owner posts a link to the new C/D review couldn't one say the same of the TL owners defending their choice :wow:

Excuse me...Did any of you guys writting about Hyndai's even READ the definition? Good initial post followed by crap here (IMHO). It doesn't say doodley about cheap cars. Rather, it states that when people discover that they have made a poor choice, they tend to "cover it up" or "make excuses" for the erronous purchase. Since there's nothing wrong with this car, there's no CognitiveDissonance involved.

Yep that's true. Just take a look at the latest C/D feedback. Since I don't really drive the car to it's limits, I don't try to defend rwd vs. fwd and I am satisfied with my purchase.

Cognitive dissonance, mmm I'm going to have to include that in my wiseass repertoir! I'm certain that term applied perfectly to the guy in the E320 that after I consistently kicked his a** on the highway he gave me the finger. Another poor soul with cognitive dissonance!

I've a TL and I'll get a "Cognitive Dissonance" when Acura will come out with the RL with V8, AWD, hybrid version.

To some degree, you have a point. (i.e.: I35=entry level luxury, 5G Maxima GLE w/Navi=loaded family car AND both are close MSRP-wise)

It's a VERY subjective term.

Your right its very Subjective a loaded GLE offers just as much luxury as an I35 and depending on where you read the Max is considered a near Luxury car as well. The only thing that seperated a loaded Maxima SE/GLE and TLS in the past was the MFG because both had similiar features one might have something the other might not have and vis versa. Acura percieved as Luxury, Nissan mainstream.
