accident and warranty

Folks,

Is the warranty on the car affected, if you are in an accident?

Thanks.

That can get complicated. If anything had to be repainted that specific area will probably fall under the body shop warranty (as with probably everything else that was replaced) Some parts will still carry the 12/12 manuf. warranty. If you were in a front end and your trunk all of a suddent stops working then, no, the accident would not affect that specific.

Thanx subinf. As you may remember, my car was rear-ended 3 weeks back. the bumper, trunk door and exhaust pipes are being replaced. There is some possible damage to the exhaust system as well. some of the rear quarter panels are being re-painted.

There doesn't seem to be any frame damage.

How did the OEM tips fare?

If your quarter panels had any bowing, waves, wrinkles, flexing (from a rear bumper impact), that is a very good indicator of frame damage.

To be safe, in your case I would have a dealer fix it. I assume that they would repair things to a degree which they would be comfortable to continue the warranty.

Good luck.

The bodyhop (Sturken Autobody in San Jose) says that the impact was in the upper part of the body and hence no damage to the frame. They have "repaired" one rear quarter panel. But given that the other car (Toyota Corolla) had to be totalled, I find it difficult to take this at face value.

How can I confirm that there is no frame damage? What kind of measurements can I ask for? Where can I get a second opinion?

thanx.
