Accident this afternoon I am okay but car is really bad
I had the stop sign two countryish roads bad intersection with known problems, I went after looking it seemed the other guy came out of no where and hit my front at 50ish. ( a tahoo 5700 lbs) The front end suspension it gone on that side and the left rear 1/4 is pretty smashed up side air bags went off as they should. I am shaken and bruised but no internal or bone injuries. Now I have to deal with Lawyers and insurance companies. I hope they total the car it only had 1200 miles on it. I'll post some pictures. One good thing is the Acura was amazing in this kind of collesion it is really a safe car.

I really doubt that they will total it...only a portion, i mean a small portion of the car has been damaged severely...but glad to hear that you are okay...emotionally you may not be okay cause your "baby (TL)" got hurt, but at least you are physically okay...

That sux. I wish it had happend to my dads car so we could get the TL already and so you would still have yours. Did you stop at the sign?!!! Did the seatbelt pretentioners activate, I have always wondered how effective they are.

Glad you are OK. Doubt that it will be totaled though. My MDX got hit a year ago the same place (left front). Repairs for the car including axle (AWD) was about $10K. I think it takes about 75-80% of book value for it to be totaled. The MDX looks like new but mechanically they are still trying to get it to my satisfaction. It is guaranteeded forever by the insurance company but I doubt that I'll keep it as planned. You may want to start thinking about getting it fixed as well as possible and trading it after the 2006 models come out, sorry.

I wouldn't be suprised if it ends up totaled. If they mucked up the engine/tranny/frame along with all the body work, suspension work too, airbag replacments are amazingly expensive also. Glad you are OK though, definately the more important thing.
Just took another look at the last picture, is the A pillar messed up too?

some engine damage front frame wheel suspension kaput windshield hood front bumper passenger seat, air bags and sensors, rear quater panel trunk head light tail light wing and that is just the visable stuff that a non pro can see. The slavage onthe car is pretty good as the remaining side and air bags and seat and interior stuff is good. I think a good case can be made for a total wreck it does not take much these days and a 50 mph 5700lb object really has made a mess of things here. I am greatful for a well made car I came out with just bruises. If they do not total it it is just money I'll take a loss and get an 06 or something else. It is a shame because I am till inthe honey moon mode with the car iwas driving home I had to go back to work for a meeting I was going home to wash the car and have some dinner with my wife........... I am greatful I am still here.

damage is significant but doesnt look like a solid 50 mph hit by a tahoe.... i have seen the damage they can inflict and i have to say you got off easy.... im glad the tl held up well and did its job and protected you.
how did the back get whacked? did it spin and hit the tahoe? or something else?

I agree..Just be glad that the great safety engineering of the TL helped you to walk away.
Imagine being in a lesser car and experiencing a similar accident. Acurazine would probably be asking for donations to buy flowers.
You made a wise choice buying a TL...

Glad you're OK and you are sooooo correct in your assesment of the situation!!
Sure you may loose a few bucks with a "total" but it's just a car and it can be replaced. Being able to return to your wife/family for dinner, now that is priceless.
God Bless

the tahoe hit the front it spun and the rears 'kissed'. I think he was actualy going faster then the 50 mph he claimed it was a long strait away and the cars there are usualy booking by the time they hit my block. I just heard back from the INS co. they totaled it and I am not surprised. I think it is a real tribute to the car that the outcome was so minimal. I have already spoken with my dealer and salesman they will do the same deal and get me a NHP black ebony replacment in the next few weeks. I thought about waiting for the 06 but really don't want to be using my 'garage' queen supra' for a daily driver for that long.

total value
I had a car with 1200 miles that got totaled. My ex wife was driving it.
When the time came to give me my check they had a dilemma. The car was a model year and there was really no resale value. Since they buried the dicounted sales price into my trade in... the sales paperwork looked like this..
mind you it was 1982...
new car 11500
sale tax 575
total 12075
The deducted so much per mile it was like 20 cents or something.
I recall laughing since the actual price of the car dicounted was 9500 but the sales paper work added 2000 to my trade rather than reduce the sales price.
I got a check for over 11000 bucks As for sales tax, since you trade in a car of value you only pay taxes on the difference in value between the new and used car. In the case here they did not do that.
I wanted to buy another car and have my ex crack it up again since I made out for 1500 bucks

A few weeks ago a guy in a trailblazer ran a red light and hit our 03 TL. Like you, we were thankful for the safety features of the TL - the front end was crushed and both airbags deployed, but the cabin was in good shape. Only injury was burns from the airbags and a sprained wrist. The 03 had $16,500 of damage, but our insurance company still totaled it and gave us roughly $25K. We now have a 05 Tl.
Good luck with your insurance. We made it clear we didn’t want the car back – not sure if that helped influence the insurance company or not.

depends...
The insurance company will wholesale the car off to someone who can do the work and not charge them labor. Let's say there is 5,000 in labor costs on the car as well as parts mark up. So if they can wholesale the car off for 8 or 9 K then they got 9 k back on the 25 they gave you and well that's a pay out of 16,000 or the same or less than the repair.
A body man can possiblely do the repair for 9k and then be driving a fairly new car around for 7k less than it is worth.
Of course these are not real numbers.
back in 82 my car was totaled and I got a call asking me if I had a spare key. Someone did exactly that. They bought the car as is and did the repairs themselves and had a car for less then full price. Or maybe was going to sell it to make a few bucks
