About VTEC?.....

When am I suppopsed to feel it??

Ok what I mean is, I know I feel great performace at around 6000 RPM's
but when is the cut off point between "normal" engine performance, and VTEC performance?

Is there a change in engine sound like ...Boom!..."ya baby, do u here my VTEC", or is it subtle and the only way you know you are Vtec-ing is when you reach 6200RPMs?

Also, about RPMS's, I just want to make sure , Is it ok to be pushing the engine at 6200RPM's all the time on any gear OR it should only happen on 3rd to 6th gears?

I'm trying to figure out this toy!

thanks! D

Your not going to "feel" it in the TL, its somewhat of a pig.

You can can hear the crossover if you listen closely, very smooth in stock form. It's at 4700-4800 RPM's.

FYI your NBP color is a pearl, no metallic tint in the color mix.

you can definitely hear the vtec kick in...
for me, with my mods, it seems like the vtec isn't as "subtle"
the rpm goes up noticeably faster after 4800...

I miss how vtec kicked in on my prelude but I like how refined the acceleration feels in the TL

Wuts up with all this vtec on vtec crime??? We gotta stop fighting each other and start taking out those bastards who drive VQ35/37's .lol
Go Vtec!!!

And to answer your question about pushing the rpm's, if ur racing and need to push the limit in each gear to get max performance then yeah of course it fine. but its not cool to just be driving to the grocery store in 2nd gear pushing 6200rpm the entire time. and if ur racing or full on accelerating then yeah its fine to push 6200 rpm in each gear(1-6)

Just after VTEC kicks in (4800 rpm) you have max torque; just before the redline you have max HP. Wouldn't be there if you weren't supposed to use it sometimes.

Although, as mentioned, driving all the way to the grocery in 2nd gear at 6200 rpm is not one of those times.

You've also got a rev limiter that will cut fuel and protect the engine if you go over the red line.

lol, that's awesome... you'd need an AEM CAI or something to get that much emphasis though!

On Base 3G TL's, VTEC kicks in at: 4700rpm.
ON Type-S 3G TL's, VTEC kicks in at: 4950rpm.

For what it's worth, you can definitely feel (and hear) VTEC kicking in on an NSX. It's absolutely glorious.

as much as i love my TL, and as fun as it is to spike VTEC, i know better than to be picking on a VQ37...

to really hear the VTEC kick, get a cold air intake, drive down a road lined with buildings, and punch it. my friend could hear me coming from 4-5 blocks away. she was like "was that you??"

"yup..."

I was talkin about the guys who drive 6spd TL-S. I'm planning on buyin one soon, and i drove my cousins 07 TL-S about a month ago just to race my friend who had recently bought a g37coupe in A/T. And i took him by a car length. Honest Story. I mean i was 6spd and he was auto so that helped... and it also helped that he doesnt know how to drive worth shit. But i think that a stock 6spd TL-S with a good driver can take an auto g37 sedan or coupe with a good driver. And with a few bolt-ons (j-pipe, intake, pullies) can take a g37 in stick.

G's are heavy cars... but, I don't understand how you can be a bad drag racer with an automatic... I mean all you do is punch it and go straight! At that point, there is no driver error and you are just limited by what the car can/can't do.

i know and thats wut i said to him...but he was starting too high in tiptronic, all our races were on highway so we never raced from a dig. But when he should have been in 2nd in tip he was in 3rd, the first race he actually started in 4th. and his reaction time is crap, we did the 3honks thing and even when he would be the one honking is horn i still launched first. Some people just shouldnt try to race

pretty much it, if you can't hear vtec with an intake than you're deaf. You're V6 turns into a V8 and you get a funny look on your face, similar to my avatar
