About to purchase '08 TL-S. Extended warranty?

quick question. about to buy one used from a dealer. there is still 2 yrs warranty on the engine//tranny

they offered the extended warranty bumper to bumper for an extra 2000$ which gives me 1 more year

(i dont mention mileage because i will reach the years first)

you guys think its worth it? any common problems that would make the bumper to bumper extended worthwhile??

(i can take care of most minor repairs myself...)

yessssss bumper to bumper is sooooo worth it, and the power train coverage. i bought my 07 tl s in 2011. im trying to sell it now. just cuz im looking to go back to school, but to answer your question. yepppp. worth every penny bro. ive gone in for a couple of things already. and havent paid a dime over the coverages i paid for when purchased. the amount of things covered so far has exceeded what the coverages cost. so it pays for its self.

With the # of issues inherent to the 3G...the more warranty the better off you are.

The Acura extended warranty is not a bumper to bumper warranty as there are many parts that aren't covered, and $2 grand is quite expensive, but if the car is driven hard, it may be well worth the money spent. I purchased the extended warranty for $800 and it was never used, but it was peace of mind especially with all the electronics.

Put that money in a CD or high yield savings account instead.

It's an insurance policy and it's only good if you use/need it. Bought one for our MDX and it has definitely paid off. Have it for the TL-S but haven't used it yet. And $2000 seems a little steep. Try these for comparison -

I almost bought an extended warranty in July for my 07 TLS 6MT. The car is Certified Pre Owned, so it came with 12 month/12K CPO warranty. I'm glad I did not, and here's why:

In the second week of ownership, the driver's side rear window "clunked" and wouldn't go down all the way, so I took it in thinking CPO was "bumper to bumper" like the salesman said. Not so. The regulator wasn't "broken", the problem was that a piece of insulation had come loose and was blocking the window's path. I was looking at diagnosis and repair labor, maybe close to $150. I made some noise and even though Acura denied the claim, the dealership covered it. Good plan, as I am sure the problem was there at purchase time.
This also made me glad I passed on the $1400 ESP that took the CPO warranty to 07/2015, instead of 07/2013. Almost all things that are covered have to be "broken/defective", and that term is fairly subjective when compared to "normal wear/needing repair."
In the case of the radio/cd/navi, I was told if Acura did not stock the unit, there would be no coverage.

$2000 must cover a lot more in 1 year than the $1400 I would have paid for 3.
Keep your $2000 and self insure.

What year is your TL?

IMO, I would save the money. You can just put it up in case something happens. It depends on your car though. If you've had several things go wrong with your car and you think you will need it, get it. If not, just put it up as your own warranty. The chances that you will blow through that $2k on unexpected repairs is slim. So you will probably end up saving money by the time the year is up.

Then you can spend whatever you saved on mods.

just save your $2000 and spend it else where later down the road in your TL, my Honda dealer offer me the same thing but I decline since in two years, I won't spend more than $2000 on my 60k mile TL with the cost of $100 deductible each time visiting dealer.

How many miles are on the car now? How much do you plan on driving it every year?

It may be worth getting the bumper to bumper if you drive less than 12K miles a year because 2 years is nothing.

As for $2000 that sounds high. I got one for my CL years ago from www.curryacuracare.com. Their prices were very affordable compared to the other dealers and you don't have to buy the car there.

Also, the warranty was refundable. I sold the car with 87K miles on it and received a check for the prorated amount.

Just a few things to consider.

Negotiate it down... Everything is negotiable. If you're financing the car, don't finance the extended warranty, pay cash if you can.

I ended up getting

- 4 nokian winter tires (no idea but lets say 500$)
- 4 winter rims ( 340$ )
- 4 tpms (200$)
- Valeur a neuf for the first 3 years(they pay the value of your car brand new if you have a theft or total loss accident + deductable for any claims) (950$)
- Extended "bumper to bumper" warranty 7yrs//100k miles (2000$)
- Sherlock under my name (90$)

For an extra 40$ per month

$4080 approx value
$2880 what im paying for that
- $1200 saved in total

whatever helps you sleep better at night.

Congrats on the pickup, how many miles are on it?

I don't bother with extended warranties but then again I take care of my cars like they're my own children so they typically treat me well in return, and if they do break I almost always fix them myself. The labor is what really kills ya above all else when it comes to repairs. About the only thing I wouldn't tackle myself is a busted automatic trans so I gotz meh a manual gurrb0x instead!

enjoy the car

As you say it is more to help you sleep better at night.

I typically do not pay for extended warranties. When I purchased my CLs for some reason I opted to get one because it was newer and I didn't plan on driving it as much. I typically take very good care of my cars too.

Most of the items that broke on the CLs was beyond my capabilities. I'm talking heated seats, memory modules, sensors, catalytic converter. I also lost my trans and that took out my motor mounts, transmission mounts and front struts.

All covered by the bumper to bumper. I slept better at night on a much more expensive mattress because of the money I SAVED having that warranty.

I have bought two cars with extended warranties and three without in the past 10 years. I bought the warranty on my Z-24 and never once did I use it in the 5 years it provided coverage. The last car was my wife's Equinox which we figured there was no way we would have a third GM car in a row with no issues so we opted for the warranty. It cost us $1200. So far after 1 year, it saved us $950 for a heater core replacement. So it at least got used, but hasn't quite paid for itself yet. We have two more years to see if we get our money out of it.

My TL? They offered me one for I think around $1800. I declined, then the price was magically $1100. I still declined. I have had my TL for 3 years and 65k miles now so it would have expired by now. Would it have paid for itself? Nope. The only out of pocket expenses that are not scheduled maintenance related have been around $200-300 I think.

If anything, the warranty prevents unexpected large expenses. Nothing like the middle of summer when the wife isn't working (teacher) to have a $1000 repair bill. So much happier when we only had to pay $50.

Mine paid for itself. Twice.

Engine oil pump leak - replaced under Acura Care. Also was able to get timing belt work done at a lower labor cost since they were in that part of the engine anyways.

Replaced compliance bushings. They were cracked, not torn, but were replaced no questions asked!

I paid 2K for the Acura Care as well - I hit the mileage well before the year expiration date.

FWIW I got Acura Care on my RSX-S and had no warranty issues at all on that car.

Mentioned it above but the extended warranty (Acura Care) we bought for our MDX was roughly $2K. We had one visit alone that would have cost us about $5K according to the service writer.

1) Replace Torque Converter.
2) Replace rear driver's side door lock actuator.
3) Replace front passenger's side window regulator.

We also had the belt tensioner pulley replaced because the bearing were "complaining" and saved some $$ by having the accessory belt replaced at the same time.

2 years of warranty is fine. 1 more year for $2,000. don't do it.

Yea that is a little steep, and I do not know why they are working out a 1 year deal, were you late on upgrading before it expired?

From what I understood, is all the plans are based on 3 year life span or more, in addition they also consider the odometer reading as well.

So for my car I was offered, 3 yrs/ 80k or 3 yrs/100k since I have low mileage on my vehicle. In addition to that, they also consider the mileage you are at currently on your odometer. Once you pass 36001, your coverage for 3 year/80k is 1470. Not sure what the next break point is, but obviously it will become more expensive.

I got when i bought mine, but it doesn't cover the small things. so far i've had to pay everything out of my pocket, and I think I wasted $2100.

Most likely, you still have to pay for your tires, breaks, and service... which is generally worthless in value. However, small things in an acura could easily push 500+, that's pretty much a joke cause we know it will cost a lot more, so I would rather have peace of mind.

Especially after seeing all the issues many of the Acura's have had via CarFax. However, I do think they didn't give you a legit deal

The extended is only good if you need to use it.. Otherwise it's dead in the water.

I bought the Acura Extended coverage with my CPO Base. I've not even came close to getting my money back out of it yet. It's saved me around 300 dollars on getting my fuel door fixed though!

Agreed, it is just for peace of mind. So far, I am not sure why, but my rear tail light for some reason melted. Not literally, but on the inside, where the turn signal portion was pretty much bent up and folded. I took it in and said it isn't part of the warranty because it isn't a safety issue and it's not broken. I wanted to see how much it was to DIY and part alone was 180 +tax. So I was automatically irritated, because why else do I have a warranty; and this judgement was made by the person who is the warranty department, where I purchased the vehicle.

Lucky me! I got a fix it ticket, and for what? my tail light I was thrilled! They paid my ticket, and installed the new light roughly $300. No questions asked =)

Next, I had a paint bubble, not sure why; at the rear bumper towards the side of the vehicle. Also had that fixed and repainted which was $350, and they did an extremely professional job

Knock on wood!

If you sleep well god for you, but the dealer proably would have thrown in the winter tires and rims anyway...and the 4 TPMS are not $200, more like $50.

You still have a drivetrain warranty for 2 years
$2,000 for ONLY 1 more year ??
