A1 service For the non-do-it-ur-selfers

For the non-do-it-ur-selfers - How much do people pay on average for their A1 service? I know the dealers always advertise $29.95 oil change specials etc. but I think they r just trying to trick you into coming in and then they'll charge you a bunch for the extra tire rotation.

I got my A1 done recently for $45, $20 for the oil/filter change and $25 for the tire rotation (or vice versa, i don't remember anymore)

But that was in the midwest, and prices vary by region. You may also want to try Honda dealerships...some ppl have said they are cheaper.

You need to give consideration to the mileage interval that your car is looking for the A1 service at. If you go 3500 miles and get an A1 indicator, *MY* recommendation is to rotate the tires every OTHER service interval. If you're getting the A1 indicator at 7,000 miles (like I do, because I drive all highway), you should consider rotating the tires at EVERY interval.

Now - if you don't want to rotate the tires yourself, have the dealer do it as an actual A1 service (which will cost you anywhere from $45 to $75 dealers, depending on specials and the dealer you're working with).

If you aren't getting the tires rotated at the dealer, you should be able to get your oil changed for about $30.

Yeah well that was the point. I got the oil change for $24, the dealer wanted an extra $55 for the tire rotation. I got it done at a local tire place Les Shwab (sp?) for no charge

I'm am about due for another oil change MID reads <20 and I usually get my oil changes for free (excluding the cost of filter). I've seen people posting they get an oil change at the dealerships for $30? Are those oil changes with mobi1? Or are you getting the oil changes at a dealership that you didn't purchase the vehicle at? I ask this because I have asked a tech at the dealership that I purchased my vehicle at about mobi1 oil change and he quoted me about $30. I might just end up doing my oil changes myself like did on my previous car.

Mobil1 oil change with mega wash - $54.95 at a local place. Tire rotation at WalMart - $6.00.

WalMart? This guy has to be kidding!

No, I've never had a problem with them. In fact WalMart does a complete walk around noting any scratches/dents. They use a torque wrench on the wheels, inflate to proper pressure and note the tread depth. It's a five minute walk from my office.

At some point, convenience wins out.

RTFM....j/k.

The A1 service is an oil change (no filter - although most dealers and service shops change the filter) and tire rotation. The B service is an oil and filter change, tire rotation and various checks.

Hope that helps.

I receive a similiar deal when I purchased my TL. But I would have to pay for the oil filter (I think it comes out to be 8 bucks or something along the lines).

When I did oil changes myself (previous car) I would always change out the filter when I did my oil changes. Is this a new feature that does not require a new oil filter at a regular oil change interval? ?

hey Don- I see you're local. btw I work in Columbia. What are your experiences with local dealerships? Just bought my 06 TL from Pohanka in VA, but live in Pikesville...close to Frankel Acura, or Norris Acura... and dont know anything about servicing.

Is it true that only a dealer can reset the car computer when doing the service so the service reminder goes off? I'm thinking about the possibility of getting regular oil changes at my mechanic's place rather than stealership....

Thanks

Reset instructions are in the owner's manual

NO, that is not true!
The reset procedure is set out in the owner's manual, and moderator Ron A has posted the excerpt from the manual a number of times, which can be found by searching "reset" and "MID" or "Maintenance Minder" in thread titles.
An independent Honda/Acura mechanic services my TL (and also resets the MID), thus saving me some $$ and time compared to going to a dealer service dept.

Angry Cost of A1 Service too High ($135.00)

I just got a quote from Gunn Acura in San Antonio, Texas of $135.00.
That seems a bit high for an oil change and rotation. The other posts were quoted at about 45.00-55.00.

I want to do the tire rotation myself but was wondering if there will be any unstability to the vehicle if i screw the bolt myself and getting them uneven. Anyone tried to this before?

Hate to do this, but since lhdz12 can't receive PMs, I need to some how let him know...

Wanted to remind everyone in San Antonio to come to our local meet this saturday at flying saucer off huebner and i-10. 7:30pm.

We will be discussing the big Texas meet on the 17th and just talking about cars. Usually we all part further out in front of the book store.

Keep an eye on acuraclubsa.com for updates. You should come and be part of our local club to make it bigger.

PS, I paid around $80 for my A1 service at Gunn. But I took them my oil.

Acura only recommends it every other oil change. They recommend changing the oil at around 7K miles, and changing the filter every 14K (give or take). If you did a oil analysis at the end of the 14K miles I would bet it would still be clean enough. Thats if your using synthetic, and premium gas. Personally I change my filter every oil change. Because it's only a few $. However, I'm sure the car can last to 200K miles easy just following their recommendations. If your going to trade it in before 100K miles I wouldn't waste the extra money getting the oil changed all the time, and changing the filter each time cause you will never see the benefits of it.

Costco and Tires

Make sure you are the one who bought the tires at Costco. I recently purchased a 04TL that had new tires from Costco. They refused to rotate and balance for free.

That same dealer ( I live in Santa Rosa also) lost the sale of my TL over $250.00 ,I went to Marin 250.00 less and free wheel locks and trunk liner, in and out with the new car in 45 min. very easy to deal with.
