Cold Start Idle

Hello All!

I'm glad I found this community. I just purchased a 04 Acura TL 6speed a few days ago and I had a question about the cold start idle. From my experience, all cars idle higher during cold start (morning) but my car doesnt. It idles at 1k in the morning (55 degrees) and warms up pretty quickly. Is this normal?? Isnt it supposed to idle like at 1.5~2 usually?

Mine idles a little higher (1100-1200 or so) when the temps fall to single digits.

In Florida (warm Spring) weather, my TL cold start idles at 900 RPM and then settles down to 700 RPM.

BTW, it has a little rough idle when cold- like it needs to clear its throat. When I say "cold", I'm talking about 75 degrees on a crisp March morning.

The fast idle on most cars is there to help warm up the exhaust and cats, improving cold start emissions. TL's have cats right on the heads, so they warm up quick without the fast idle. Cold fast idle eats a lot of gas, so a slower idle is not a bad thing.
