Question A1 service

According to the 2007 service manual, I thought the A1 service included oil and filter change and tire rotation. I had my car serviced at the dealership today and found that only the oil and filter was changed. Tires were not rotated. (I marked the front tires before taking it to the dealer.) Since I am a new Acura owner, is the tire rotation not included, but extra? How often do you rotate the tires? Thanks!

Not sure about what they do at the dealer for that service but I think A1 is only oil and filter. I just got mine and would need to check the manual to be sure.

I rotate my tires every 6k miles on most of my vehicles.

longbeach, it does include Tire Rotation. I do what the MID tells me to.

Seems a lot of dealers want to get you on the "Dealer Maint Plan" - where you show up for service more often, whether or not the car needs it.

With that in mind, sorry to say:

Never go to for service (anywhere) without telling them exactly what work you want done.

In your case, you should have told the service writer something like: "I'm here for an oil change, full synthetic 5w20, filter, 24 point service check and tire rotation. DO NOT WASH THIS CAR."

Why would anyone just expect them to do the "right" service. It's your car, take control.

And yes, the dealer *should* know what to do for A1 service. Reading all these threads, there's just too many dumb ass and/or lazy dealers.

Also, take the car where you get good service and good prices - if that's not a dealer, it doesn't matter.

It's your car, your responsibility.

if the tires are like.. brand new you don't need to rotate them

my tires are like 1 - 1.5 months old it would seem pointless to rotate them this early

also - is this your very FIRST oil change for the car?

I bought the car in February and it has 5300 miles on it. It is the first service for the car.

How much did they charge you for the oile & filter change?

Call the dealer and ask them about it. Tell them that according to the car's manual and the MID, the A1 includes tire rotation and ask them why they didn't do it.

IMHO- I would rotate tires every 5k miles.

Uh, I didn't think that the A-1 service INCLUDED an oil FILTER change, only oil. Be careful out there. If you change the oil, change the filter!!!!

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS mark your tires when you go to the dealer for tire rotation service. They charged me for it at Keyes and never did it. And when I brought it to their attention, they couldn't have cared less.

I bring my car to the dealer every 15K they do a complete check up under there maintenance plan booklet and they let me know everything thats wrong, Ive kinda become friends with the mechanic so he brings me to the tech area and shows me whats up with things on the computer and tells me pretty much what Im gonna need, what can/cant wait, and what I can do on my own, then I ask him what he recommends lol and for your question... rule of thumb from all mechanics Ive known, every 2 oil changes rotate the tires.

Thats why I always pay credit when I get stuff for the car because if Im not happy and they wanna blow me off I stop payment until what I specified to be done is done.

Went in for A1 Service yesterday. When I spoke with the Service Advisor on the phone two days ago, they quoted $39.95, said it included oil change and tire rotation.

So I go in @ 1:30 for my 2 PM appointment, they ask what I need done. I tell them A1 service, which is oil change and tire rotation. She points and asks if I want the Blue level service, which is oil change/tire rotation/ and a bunch of other fluid inspections. The price is $110. I tell I just need the oil changed and tire rotated.

Am advised the oil change is $39.95 and the tire rotation is $25. I tell her I was quoted $34.95 for everything, she says that's not correct. This dealership sold me the Car Club program, which is to entitle me to a 10% discount on all maintenance, which I remind her I'm a part of. She tells me this is only good for Scheduled Maintenance, and not oil changes. She says she'll give me the oil change for $34.95. Goes to show that these prices are rather arbitrary.

I can easily do the tire rotation myself, and all the fluid inspections are done by me on a routine basis, no need to pay them $45 for this.

These service advisors work on commission, so of course they'll try to sell you more stuff then what you need.

They also put one of those oil change reminder stickers that says next oil change December 2008. Nope! Will follow the Maintenance Minder.

About how much should an A1 service cost?

I would like to DIY but for a reasonable price I'd like to save my time too. Also, DIY for someone not as car savvy isn't as easy as it would sound, especially without the right tools.

And according to the Navi screen voice that gives you messages, It's an oil change AND tire rotation. The car says that itself. Not sure if oil filter is included per say.

This is probably what I will ask the dealer about... "I'm here for an oil change, full synthetic 5w20, filter, 24 point service check and tire rotation. DO NOT WASH THIS CAR."
