so my 99 4 speed TL pulled away from a 5 speed 300zx today 4 times.... wierd... i thought they were fast. or maybe the driver just didn't know how to drive. not sure. i was in tiptronic the whole time and we first started off going at 20 mph, 3 honks and go.... did that 3 times and all three times i pulled away from him leaving him 3 cars behind within 30 secs before i slowed down. on the 4th run, we ran at a complete stop at the light, and again, i pulled away from him and he just quit.... he was pissed.....

but from what i know, my first gear is pretty weak, at least i thought it was, and never knew i had so much torque. on top of that, i had 3 other people in the car so more weight.... i was wondering if this sounded right to anybody else.... or maybe it was just the driver....

 

The base 222hp Z32 is not quick/fast. The 300hp VG30DETT powered Twin Turbo is the one that lays the smack down.

 

All of the non turbo versions of that generation Japanese sports cars were slow (3000GT, 300ZX, Supra). 200ish HP in a heavy heavy body.

 

Maybe his care was not in great working order? Also, I heard the old Z engines get very weak after 90 to 100K miles.

 

it wasn't the twin turbo version that's why u won.
