87 v 93 octane
87 v 93 octane
For a brief time recently, I wanted to see how much of a difference using regular fuel made from using premium/high octane fuel.
After a few tanks of regular, I didn't notice much of anything. No knocks, no detonation, no noticeable loss of power.... No detrimental effects really.
I waited until my light came on and I filled back up with premium fuel (93 octane here in Philadelphia). The increased power was almost immediately noticed.
I believe the regular fuel retarded the timing so much as to prevent pinging and lost a bit of power.
So, my short experiment proved me right. Our cars require premium fuel for proper performance.

It's not science when you go and re-do an experiment that's been done time and time again.
