6MT shifter

wish it was still a tad shorter, just requiring a little pop of the wrist like in the BMWs

but still happy either way..

Compared to my Saab 9-3's shifter (very loose and the shift gates are very wide) which is tall and loose, this thing (TL 6MT) is like heaven to me.

I get a much better result in my TL when I move the console all the way up towards the shifter and cover one of my drink holder slots. This allows me to just flip my wrist a bit to shift. Very smooth and crisp.

That's funny, I don't have any experience w/ many BMWs, but in a 330i, the throws seemed longer than in the TL. Hmm...

Tripp...agree completely, I'm always selfish w/ only one cupholder open because I pull the armrest all the way out so I rest my hand while shifting...

Compared to my 3 on the column shifter with my 1972 Ford Maverick, the 6MT is a breeze . . .

Have you actually driven a modern BMW? Shift throw is a minor scandal that has spawned a booming market in short shift kits. My previous car was an E36 328i, which I often shifted with my hand on the top of the boot, well below the knob. The new 325i and 330i have similar throws. The action on the TL is far better, once you get used to the offset lever.

I'm surprised you think the TL has longer throws than a BMW. I used to have a 6 speed Maxima and that car had about the same length throws for both the shifter and the clutch as my friend's M3. The TL I found to be 100x better than the shifter and clutch in both of those cars. Very precise and perfect, in my opinion. I was very disappointed in the M3, for such an amazing car I felt as though the shifter left a little to be desired.

The BMW shift throw is a little longer than that of the TL. The throw in my 330 ZHP (shorter than the normal 330) feels much closer to that of the TL, but still not quite there. Somewhat disappointing, and yes, it has spawned a big short-throw shifter aftermarket in the 3er world.

Having said that, I like the overall feel of the manual tranny in both cars about the same. The TL's shifter was smooth like butter (very, very nice), while the 330's required a little more effort (but still crisp and clean).

Honda standard transmissions are one of the smoothest in any production car. Nissan, Toyota, VW/audi, and even BMW...I haven't found one car in their line up that can compare.
