6MT drivers - How often do you stall?

I just stalled my TL today, trying to turn left on green arrow. As a result, me and this car behind me completely miss that arrow. This is my first manual that I got in November 2009 and I think the last time I stalled it was a little more than a year ago and I drive my car almost daily.

How about you all?

About once every few weeks or so. It only happens when I'm trying to start gently (about 1500rpm) and I'm not paying close attention.

I've gotten used to it, haven't had it stalled on the road in the past 2 weeks (I got the car recently, first manual too) but did stall a few times getting in to my garage at an angle and steep climb but have gotten a lot better at it now. TL isn't an easy car to drive, I hate the touchy throttle!

I'll be honest, I probably stall it once every 2 weeks. Such a touchy clutch...

Haven't stalled it since I bought it ~3 years ago. I've been driving stick for nearly 2 decades though.

When I had first gotten it, it was only a couple of times. I've had this car for 6 years now and haven't stalled it in traffic. I only stall when I forget that the car was already in gear when I had parked it and decide to let go of the clutch after turning the car on.

3 times in 2~3 years. 2 of which were this year trying to ease into it on a hill when the ground was icy. Lol.

not once. Had it since feb.

Not saying i'm an expert in driving the thing, it does take a bit of concentration to maintain smooth shifting. Still experimenting with it. But is it hard? no.

I won't lie, I probably stall about once every other month or so. Usually it's when I'm off in never never land or have my mind totally focused on something else. Not that you need full attention to drive right, but if you're completely vacant it can happen :blindfold

I got my first manual at beginning of April 2011, and I stalled out twice. It stopped happening though :P

I almost bought a manual 2005 TL but I didn't like the clutch at all. So I bought an automatic instead.

I'm a firm believer of having your daily driver AT, and your weekend warrior MT.
It also depends on geographics.. I assume many of you TL owners living in pastoral areas can still get away with a MT as your daily driver. But NYC, LA, other major cities, forget about it.

never in traffic, a few times in/out of driveway in 6 years (usually trying to manuever in the snow covered roadway). i live in a metro area...drive 6MT...i drive against traffic though while the times i'm stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, it sucks.

I wish my car had theAbility to stall when've I wanted it to lol. I think it's time to trade for a 6mt or get a tranny swap.

Which was probably caused by something else.

Like lots of the others I stalled it a few times when driving it at first... but not at all since.

The clutch in this car has little forgiveness. I stalled a few times until I got a good feel for the clutch and throttle.

I stalled twice in the first month I owned the car but haven't since. That does not mean the clutch is easy by any means. Still pretty rough on some starts.

+1

For me it's always when I'm just inching the car along when traffic is crawling. The way I see it, as you get used to driving an MT TL, you get to where you can drive and shift with minimal throttle. Have too little and you stall.

But one counterpoint: one sure way to not stall is to get rev-happy with it and have the clutch fully or mostly engaged for over-extended periods, putting more stress on tranny and burning the clutch. Isn't that worse? How many of those that 'never' stall fall into that category? Not all, but I bet some. I'm pretty sure my baby would rather stall on occasion than be driven like that.

Once every 3-4 months, been driving manuals since the 70;s. Never had a clutch as tricky as my 05 TL. Honda/Acura made a change to the MMC TL Type-S clutch to make the pressure plate have more "feel". I'd like to drive one once to compare.

it happens every now and then. ive been driving manuals for 7 years and it still happens occasionally.

the slave cylinder mod helps though, takes that numb feeling out. what a dumb piece of engineering.

Can't remember the last time I stalled it. I know I did twice when I first bought it getting used to the clutch.
