Working next to a dealer, and surveying the lot from time to I think the ratio is about 14-18 AT for every MT. Maybe 25% with Navi. Navi/MT one out of 56-72

Come on, man...everyone knows we just turn the crank in the front of the car...that's what the plug is for on the passenger side of the bumper...you put the crank in there and turn it...it winds the big ol' rubber band we have that makes our cars go.

BYW, Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA currently shows 128 2006 TL's in their inventory, 31 of which are 6MT's. That tends to mirror their past inventory mix of having 25-27% manuals on the lot.

I don't care about the stats. I bought an AT, and traded it in 5 months for a 6MT. Never looked back.

Don't regret it a bit. So much more fun to drive. IMO

Horsepower is not what makes the 6MT faster than the 5AT. Same engine, same horsepower lol.

The 6MT is only faster with a driver who can shift quickly and efficiently... My 5AT is faster than about half of the 6MT's out there because of who's drving them..

keep that in mind.

Au contraire. I, a novice MT driver, "raced" my brother's modded 03 TL-S, and pretty much tied. I even had my VSA on. As far as I know, his car can easily run mid 14's.

I can't imagine a 6MT losing to a 5AT unless the 6MT driver is retarded.

I know, this is only true for straight line. It would require a decent MT driver in a road course with a lot of turns to beat the 5AT.

Let me get my flame suit on here...there we go...I've always wondered this...WTF is the obsession with manuals? What actual purpose do they serve? I know you say they're fun, you can listen to your intake more, you can hold your car in VTEC and piss gas, etc. I'm talking a practical, logical reason for it.

That being asked, a friend of mine is going to teach me to drive a manual (call it my "research" to answer my own question). But in all honesty, it seems pointless...it's just one more thing you have to do and/or pay attention to...I would imagine it to be quite bothersome if you are under the influence (save your sermons) or in constant stop and go traffic (as noted by many).

Any insight would be appreciated (flame suit adjusted to maximum).

I had it out with 6MT 350Z in my 5AT TL and I think he was alittle surprised when we were dead even into 3rd. Oh, he was trying and shifting pretty good. At the next light he honked and gave me the

power is more direct and instant for one. no torque converter that's why(that's why you have less HP guys). i am glad you are taking the lesson. you'll never really understand/feel until you drive a decent horse power one. but i do understand if you are a coffee drinker / chain smoker / a lot of kids in the car need to smack them around while ur driving-er.

you ever had a krispy kreme orignal glazed donut, fresh piping hot out of the oven? -- people used to tell me all the time that it was like heaven, and melts in your mouth as you eat it....so finally i decided to go try for myself, and that shit was good....

similarly...the 6mt on the ac tl....you just need to become one with the transmission...make your hand your body legs and feet a part of it, and trust me it will open up some doors for you......

nothing touches the MT if you are a driver.....

holla

Krispy Kreme! I pass one on the way to work everyday (less than 10 minutes from either the house or the office)...they've got a neon sign you can see from the road that lets you know if a fresh batch is coming out at that moment or not.

But you would think that no matter how good of a manual driver you are...for a car with the same engine, Pressing the clutch, shifting and realeasing would take more time then tapping the ss mode to 2nd and 3rd....

I guess there is only one way to prove it

One might ask the same question regarding automatic transmissions.

Let's face it. When it all boils down, it's nothing more that a matter of personal preference.. and you're hearing this from someone who has a VERY strong bias in favor of manual transmissions (I never would have even considered the TL for a moment were it not for the fact that a manual was available). I can give you economic reasons (they last longer, cost less to maintain, and are strong (generally)). I can give you performance reasons (in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, it's almost magic). But it still largely a matter of personal choice.
