So, i was lazy and decided to take my car in to get an oil change back in Sept 2011 and was asked if I wanted to do a 50-60k mile maintenance.

Has anyone done this?

Any recommendations of maintenance I should be doing around this amount of mileage?

This is my first import and want to stay on top of things.

Any info is appreciated.

2007 TL-S (automatic)

I'm due for another oil change next month and just replaced my cabin/air filters too.

My concern was about the trans flush.. I've heard good and bad things about doing so.

Also, whats the deal with spark plugs, when should they be replaced?

Thanks everyone

There's been many discussions (i.e. more like arguments) over when spark plugs should be replaced ... some individuals have found their plugs with not much wear and no visible increase in gap even after 100k+ while others with similar mileage have found otherwise.

If you're willing to spend the $70 or so for new plugs as a PREVENTIVE measure, sure why not (I have 74k on my 06TL, and I'll going out to purchase some new plugs later in the day as well)

PS - Don't quote me on this, but I've read several times throughout that a number of people change them out at around 70k (again prevention being a major component of their decision). Also, tranny flush - not sure at how many miles one should perform the flush ... but all I can say is, the sooner the better @_@. I'm running amsoil synthetic atf - will also be replacing the tranny filter (again with prevention in mind )

Just have them change the oil and drain and fill the transmission. The TL doesn't need any real services until 105k. If you can change the oil and do the tranny drain/ fill on you own ( both are very easy to do) this can be a sub $100 job. Local Honda / Acura shop maybe $250 and the dealer closer to $1000-$1500 ( with all the unneeded work they want to do ).

The TL doesn't have a 50k or 60k service, all service intervolts are based on how you drive and a number of other factors the cars computer looks at to determine when services are needed. A sure fire way to know someone has no idea what they are talking about at the dealer or other wise is if they talk about a 20k or specific mileage service intervolt because it will be different for each TL.

Hi speed / Crzygosu - Appreciate the input.

As mentioned, the last time I went to the dealer, they recommended the trans flush (which runs $130 to do so.. You are right about the spark plugs, I do recall them saying to be replaced at about 100k.

I really don't drive my car much since I work in Chicago downtown area and parking is mad expesive! From the looks, I wont be hitting 100k for another 2-3yrs.

Anything else I should be aware of? My warranty is voiding next Sept, if not mistaken, would like to take advantage of it prior to expiring.

follow your MID. search for other maintenance threads. there are no mileage based intervals for the TL. brake fluid every 3 yrs. timing belt service (which includes the spark plugs, water pump etc) is at 105K and ALSO denoted by the "4" that will pop up in the MID around that mileage point. some get it sooner, some get it a couple thousand later. nothing is written for the power steering fluid, most will do as needed (ie when dirty or if steering feels off) or at their own designated mileage interval (like 60k).

do you have your owner's manual? read it. if you dont' have one...might be a good time to invest in one.

My TL-S has 66k on it. I've done the following since I owned it at 34K. Replaced Tranny fluid twice both times with GM Syncromesh. I've changed oil at 30% oil life each and every time. What else is there to do besides spark plugs? Which I'm doing at 70K. I know my power train warranty is up at 70K and I've heard an odd "ting" on the front end when I go from reverse to 1st directly when I put load on it. Any ideas? Gears never popped out since I put in GM fluid.

Follow the MID. That will tell you what to do and when.

That said, if you have never done the following I would recommend these:

1x3 or 3x3 Transmission Fluid Change
Cabin Air Filter
Replace Brake Fluid
Inspect belts and hoses
Inspect brakes and tires.

Got my TL a year and a half ago at 51,000 miles. Currently sitting at 59,xxx. I did a 60,000 mile complete tune-up last month. Changed engine oil, flushed all fluids and rotated the tires. Cabin filter was changed in January. I think they did some other stuff but I remember off the top of the dome.

They also did a 21-point inspection.

Around $500.

Ive only changed the oil twice since I bought the car. I have no idea how well the car was maintained before i bought her but it was a CPO vehicle from Nissan. I figured I'd give my baby the works.

In a year and a half of ownership on put on less than 10,000 miles.

I called Acura dealer yesterday to see what the trans flush would run me.. $209.95

Called an Import specialist mechanic shop near me that a few friends take their cars to and found out that they can not do the flush - due to not having a power flush machine???

So, they recommended me to another shop that is charges $139

With that being said, my problem is... Do I take it to Acura where power flush and use Honda standard oil or take it to this other shop that told me they use SA6 oil (which i dont know what that is)

Any thoughts???

A power flush is NOT approved for Hondas or Acuras!!!

The Honda and Acura manuals (including the owner's manual, IIRC) and TSBs use the word "flush" to mean "drain and fill"-- draining the fluid, putting in fresh fluid, running the transmission under load for several minutes, then draining again and re-filling. You'll see the term "3x3"-- drain and fill three times-- in various posts here.
