5K Mile TL Summary

Hey everyone.

Been a member and have been referencing this website for all of the fantastic info and discussions. Just hit 5K miles the other day, and thought I'd give some feedback on my experiences so far.

Purchase: '05 SSM TL 6sp with Navi and summer tires
November 2005. Had a 2002 Galant GTZ paid off, and dropped it off at Sears for tires. Then went car shopping with my friend (who ended up with new Lexus IS350). While he was looking at Acura's, I heard the dealer mention they had (7) 6 speed's left on the lot and wanted to get rid of them... at that same time, Sears called and said they didn't have tires in stock for Galant... I took this as an omen, traded the Galant that day and drove home that night with my new baby!!

My wife had an '02 BMW 325, which was nice, but was too small for our growing family (our daughter is now 2 1/2), so we traded it last year for an '04 MDX - and since then I've been in love with Acuras...

Problems/issues:
Driving home to PA with the car (purchased near work in NJ), it was a cold rainy night. The car handled fantastic despite summer tires once they heated up. I noticed the heat wasn't working... took it to the dealer the next day and they said during original assembly the heater cable (described like a bicycles brake cable) was crimped. They replaced it the next week, and I had heat!

With 1500 miles on it, got rear-ended while I was sitting at a light at noon on a Monday by a DUI. Found a certified autobody place in my area of PA, and they did a great job, just bumper needed replacing. Was $800, but the other guys insurance took care of that. sidenote: was on Bluetooth phone at the time... had I not been, I would have seen the DUI coming in my rear view mirror I bet... remember to stay alert!!!

Already have a few chips from rocks in the hood, and a small one on the window. Such is life - the car is building character!

Tires:
Summer tires are great, but when that temp drops and the tires are cold - watch out!! So I wanted to get a winter setup, including rims. After the quote from the dealer, and experiencing 2 broken rims on the galant during winter from potholes, I decided to shop around...

So I went to www.tirerack.com (excellent pricing and service I though), and ordered their winter tire and rim package. Here's what I got:

4 17x7.5 ASA JH3 Bright Sat In Stock $179.00 $716.00
20 Required lugnut for vehicle In Stock N/C N/C
4 Required centering ring In Stock N/C N/C
4 235/45VR-17 Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport XL In Stock $155.00 $620.00
4 Mount and Balance (No Charge) N/C N/C

Rims look sharp (you can see them on the website), and I actually like this look better than stock... but most importantly, if they need to be replaced, they're cheap! Tires are good - hold the road well in dry conditions and are excellent rain/snow performers as well.

Summary:
I'm 31, and this is my 17th car... and by far my favorite in all categories. Kudos to Acura for building such a well balanced machine!!!

Nice write up, I just got my TL last night, and I am afraid of the scratches and nicks its gonna pick up, its so nice looking as is................and I never trust repaints on the bumpers, ppl just dont know how to prep urathane and use flex properly I think, from my experience OEM bumper paint is a lot more durable and wont crack.

But goodluck with the car, sounds like you are enjoying it. I think Curry Acura has a Navi 05 brand new car on the lot 6 spd, they are trying to get rid of got 31k, thats like 33k out the door with navi. Not bad. 6spds are harder to sell sometimes.

Yo, Wid, that review is da bomb! I love my TL...I just added some blue undercarriage lighting and spinning rims to mine. I highly recommend these mods to all...they really bring a classy, yet "fast and the furious" to an already dope looking ride
