4th gen tl vs 3rd gen

Does anyone have any idea how many 09 tl's have been sold? I know that is not really a fair question with the economy in melt down. But I have only seen ONE new TL on the road, where I've seen many 09 TSX's. I still think the new 09 is just plain ugly and too expensive, but I'd be curious to see the sales figures. BTW the new tsx is ugly too, but not AS ugly.

LOL

Although Acura's overall sales went down from -32.4 to -39.0%, at least the TL went up from 2317 to 2490. The bright side of things.
From the 4G forum.

My neighbor has a 09. I took a closer look at it and it looks like a Saturn sedan in the rear. I think the TSX looks better.

What acura has done is move everything up a spot in their lineup, basically the TSX v6 will appeal to 3rd Gen TL owners and so forth.

I feel that the 3G TL is a much better car than the 4G, but the 4G's navigation system blows away the regular TL's navi.

I was kinda thinking that. The TSX handles that sword grill better than the 4G up front, IMHO. If something happened to my 3G, I don't know what I would get to replace it, maybe another 3G if I could find one, if not, I would give up on the luxury sport arena altogether and get a truck.

I beleive the 09 tsx is moving up to replace the 3g TL and the 4g TL is going to be a mid size luxury sedan right under the RL.

I think the 09 tsx is koo...it does resemble the 3g TL in a way. I guess its the grill and the wider body. At least theres a v6 6auto!!

It takes some time.....U will fall in love all over again

I had one 09 TL SH-AWD for over 1 week, while my 07 TL-S was at the dealer to check out the noise in the axels.

My conclusion is that SH-AWD rocks, but the overall feeling was way much heavier, and not as powerful as it should. Consider the overall weight, and amount of HP, torque, is just not enough.

As for the interior, the material and built seems to be better, but almost no space for your gadgets, or little stuffs, the center console hole is so tiny that can't even fit a cellphone (smartphone).

One thing I did like is that camera seems to be better quality, the new navigation, which I believe could be ported to 3G TL, I'm explain my reason.

And finally I like the fact of smart entry smart start.

So, why I believe the new navigation could be used in 3G TL?

Well, as a matter of fact, I had MDX for a few days again, and basically they operates like the new 4G TL's the only difference is that the maps on the new TL are better, and a better screen.

Therefore, if MDX uses same maps as 3G TL, and operates like new 4G TL, then if we could somehow copy those maps from 4G TL, then it should be able to work on 3G TL.

After all, maps and GUI are two different layers in the system.

Oh BTW, the new TSX is actually an evolutionary design, basically shares many design features of previous generation, is more like European brands' concept aka BMW, Benz, or Audi.

But, 4G TL has nothing it's more like a cross-breed between Mazda, Saturn, Cadillac CTS, and New Accord (interior/dashboard).

2 different systems. The navi in the 3G is DVD based, the navi for the 4G is hard drive based. The navi screen in the 3G is actually very good. Just ask some of the guys here that have rigged their screen to play movies. The screen resolution is quite good, it is just the maps loaded on the DVD's are horrible and make the screen look as such.

I know the Navi system are different, all I'm saying is that the maps could be used on the 3G.

Cuz, the 4G Navi system is just like MDX's, while MDX's maps are exactly same as 3G TL.

So, if we could somehow copy the maps from the 4G and try it out on the 3G, that'll be awesome.

I'm sure 3G's Navi must read maps files, and if we could updated those maps files, I guess should work.

Same here, no matter how well the new 4G TL built is, or the improvement done on the Navi's Map.

I still like the 3G TL's design... any day.

All I can say, it's the designers at Honda/Acura are messing up a lot. Just look at the number, it's depressing how fast it's declining.

I think that has a lot to do with the economy. All the car makers are hurting.

Only car company that's not hurting is Subaru and Bmw's Mini division. I think both of them sold more cars this year then last year.

I personally can't stand the 4g TL.

Even if you could somehow port 4G maps onto the DVD of a 3rd gen TL it would probly take forever to load off a DVD since they are much higher resolution. I am pretty sure that is why the maps on the 3G TLs look ugly compared to 4G; because theyre designed more for performance load speed rather than quality.

I think you're right, cuz, after having MDX for few days, I notice that the User Interface is exactly same as 4G TL, which I believe 4G TL inherit MDX's navi system, while enhancing and improving features such as Weather Forecast and Map's resolution.

Hope Alpine could do something and improve 3G's Navi Maps...
