I heard they are putting down well in excess of 180 hp at the wheels, obviously underrated.

For comparison, my friend's 193-fwhp Integra Type-R lost to me by about 3 carlengths, and my car was putting down 239 hp at the time. So against a stock auto TL, I think the Si would inch ahead. Manual TL, the Si would most likely lose, given equal drivers... because my brother's manual '05 with a CAI kept up with my car.

Pure Adren! Your car pulled 3 on a Type-R? I didnt know we could do that. Our mod lists are pretty similar.. do you think I could pull of anywhere near the same results? There's this guy who drives a GSR with just exhaust who's always to pick fights with me, and I want to lay the smack down on him!

Umm, news flash. Our cars aren't exactly turtles.

What do you got? If it's a GS-R with just an exhaust system, then you will have a field day on his ass... just as long as you have a Type-S with some bolt-on's.

Yeah, you should be able to beat Type-R's, stock and mildly modded. Have fun, and be careful.

I hear there are still good 0.5 second diffrence in 0-60 times even compared to TL auto.

What a more interesting quesiton is. Hows Si do against RSX-s?

THere were talks since Si are cheaper, RSX-s is getting a hit.

not sure how much cheaper the Si is considering everyone wants one and dealers are going to ask over sticker like Burns Honda here in NJ...who is making you a buy a "vehicle enhancement package" for an additional 1700.00 dollars over sticker or you can't buy the car

ps...i like to see that match up too... I think I would buy the SI with the optional 18s wheel package..looks dope

lay down the crack pipe.

i suppose your 3G TL is running 13s to beat him by 5-8 car lengths. and on a parallel line of thought, i suppose 3G tl's also pull 5-8 car lengths on rsx-s' as well.

not gonna happen.

Straightline stock vs. stock, the TL will win

In the twisties... well the Si has a NICE suspension setup and gets some nice times in the slaloms. I'd imagine with 2 equally competent drivers the Si would leave the heavier TL in the dust.

I'm dumping my 2nd gen TL for an 06 Civic Si later this year. The car isn't as nice as the TL, but it has one thing I think the TL seriously lacks - personality. At $22,760 for one with navi and summer tires, it's a huge bargain. I already have an 05 Accord EX-V6 coupe to drive daily, I want the Civic Si for one reason - it's so much damn fun. Go drive one and see for yourself. A few spins in an Si and you won't remember what leather is! Honda.

I wont miss the leather. Alacantra is a nice replacement and wears better in the long term.

I'm getting a 2007 Civic Si sedan.

It recorded a .90g average in a 600-ft slalom. That's impressive.

Are you trading in your 05 TL for it? I guess after many Accords and now the TL I just want a car that is fun to drive in so many more ways than my TL and Accord.

your old si does not even compare to the new si in terms of speed and luxury. old si's are slow as hell. the new one will be capable of high 14s in the hands of a competent driver, so i don't think the TL will be "ripping apart" this model. not saying that the TL won't win, but i doubt it will be by more than 1-2 car lengths.

In my opinion, the Si/RSX-S, and the more expensive S2000 and NSX represent what Honda does best. They have high-revving, high-hp-per-liter engines, sophisticated suspensions that provide excellent handling, some of the best manual gearboxes in existance, and entertainment (smiles-per-mile) other Honda cars like the TL and RL can't touch - but they also weren't designed to.

I'm willing to give up some of the TL's features for a Honda car that will put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. The TL is nice, but it's a different class. It's heavy and luxurious. I happen to live in an area with a lot of twisty rural roads and the Civic Si will be able to tackle them in a way the TL cannot. I'm not old enough yet to resign myself to the ultra-refinement of Accords and TLs completely - I need a fun car, and this is perfect.

I hope someday to pick up a used NSX for the ultimate fun car.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...9/pageId=66617

Highlights:
Horsepower (hp @ rpm): 197 @ 7,800
Torque (ft-lbs @ rpm): 139 @ 6,200

0 - 60 (sec): 7.2
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.1 @ 93.8

A TENTH equals ONE car length. I said 5-8, where I am I wrong here? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just stating, the facts.

In fact I have seen a modded RSX go low 14's with very good mph, like 103... I don't hate. But if I had all the comparable mods the RSX guy had (at US41 Dragway), I would expect to run like 13.8.......

So take a nice hit on your crack pipe, but if I give my car a 14.4 pass, and a Civic SI a 14.9 pass, that is still 5 tenths or CARlengths...

Yup. Trading in the '97 TL for an '04 RL as well.

I'm going for Rallye Red, summer tires, and navi. $22,740MSRP. Are you going for navi or non-navi?

Of course this is months away for both of us.

did you read the new C+D putting the SI against the new GTI... GTI wins?!

I don't agree at all! that GTI is ugly and cost over 28K...no way! I'm sure the build quality is the same as all other VWs....crap

C+D are getting PAID by vw lately... no other way to explain.

I agree.... Plus with Acura just announcing the 4-CYL Turbo charged SH-AWD 240hp 260tq package for the RDX, it'll be a matter of a couple of years before that finds it's way into the TSX... And I'd take a TSX over the SI simply due to the luxury factor, and the all wheel drive wouldn't hurt... Hell I even looked at the CSX (Acura Canada's counter part to civic, but with a larger engine, the base RSX engine, and a couple of other differences) and wasn't impressed at all, the car felt too small and I'm sorry to say it didn't have the longevity feel to with regards to the interior styling. I feel I would get sick of it, not in the first months, but a couple of years down the road, like it would be bland and kinda dorky... like the 1st gen Hyundai tiburon, it looked futuristic and sleek when it came out but the following years it aged drastically to look like something out of an 80's futureistic movie...Just my

The civic is still the cheapest Honda product out there, the SI is not, but it's still a civic. The SRT-4 is still a NEON, think about it...it's a pretty good comparson, given the civic will have a much longer life span then a neon. Even though the SRT-4 can beat a TL-S, no TL-S driver would want to sit in a neon no matter how fast it is. It's Chevrolet's econo car, with a bigger engine and a few options, the SI is Honda's econo car with a "bigger" engine and a few options... The marketing for the new civic is incredible, try not to get caught up in the hype..

At least when Honda puts a big engine in their econo car it doesn't become their second fastest prodiction car..... with Chrystler the SRT-4 was 2nd to the V10 Viper!!! lol

Wow, I haven' t really looked into the specs and options for the new civic. I'm amazed that a civic is available with navi now...a great deal given the fun factor of the SI and the relatively low cost....props to Honda =)

The SRT-4 is Dodge's economy car and not a fair comparison with a Civic Si. It might be faster, but safety, reliability, and build quality are light years difference.

I, too, would get sick of the Civic Si if it were the only car I had access to, but it isn't. Plus, I get new cars regularly - I never keep them too long.

BTW - A Civic Si will run circles around the current TSX. The TSX is nice, but it's just not exciting. I want a car that has a screaming engine, nice transmission, decent features, high safety, and a low price tag. A TSX 6MT is about $6k more for leather, HIDs, VSA, and heated seats - but less performance. I don't want another Accord, and IMO, that's exactly what the TSX is. I had one for a month, so I feel that I am qualified to make that call.
