3rd gear set

So I've been having the dreaded 3rd gear problems with my 06'. The service manager at my dealer didn't belive me, so I gave him the car and told him to drive it like it was his for a week. He did, upon giving it back he told me he thought I was smoking crack until the last day he had it. It grinded going into third and once in gear it popped out upon any real acceleration. He was astounded that that actually happened. He is going to replace all the thrid gear compnets in the trans. I told him I want an RL loaner when they do it. I know I'll get a TSX with my luck though.

Good luck, I think that's been done for others and nothing changed. IMHO with all the many people noticing the 3rd gear stuff I find it tough to believe it isn't a design issue rather than some problem limited to a few cars. And if the new parts are of the same design then little might change in the long run.

Had you tried new MTF ? Honda, GM SMFM or other first?

I have the same problem, but I'd rather live with it, then have the monkeys at dealership take the tranny apart with their dirty hands.

I had it done in my car in March. Weather was warm and I only had problems here and there.
As the weather cooled it then started having the same problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd and then 3rd to 4th. The dealer looks at you like you have 2 heads when you say you're having transmission problems.

so far with this new acura fluid its been pretty good

I wouldnt say its completely gone but way better than its been.

I agree with gt1, I dont want them tearing into anything.

But the head mechanic told me himself, he will put the GM shit in there last resort...

3rd Gear

I thought you guys were nuts complaining about grinding 3rd from up or downshift when I had my AT. Now that I'm a shifty driver I've had the unfortunate experience myself. The first time it happened I had only had the car a week and figured I just let out the clutch too soon. It's been 2 yrs since I've owned a man-tran. But that isn't something that just happens. Your body doesn't engage clutch, disengage clutch, shift. It just doesn't.

Anyway, it happened again, and again, ... you get the picture. I haven't mentioned it to my dealer b/c I want to save those battles for when I really need something. I've heard replacing the tranny fluid is an improvement and I may be doing that soon!
