3G AT vs Subaru WRX

Over the weekend, I was enjoying Saturday afternoon going to buy some clothes.

When I turned onto a 35MPH Uphill, I saw a Subaru WRX with cleared tailight trying to pass all other cars on the road. At top of that hill, there is a traffic light then road becomes two lane. I wasn't in mood to go behind slow cars doing 30MPH so I got into 3rd lane and was following behind this WRX.

When we got to top of the hill, Subaru got first spot on 3rd lane and I got second spot behind him. Now we have to merge to second lane because this lane will be gone in a bit. I was curious if he would try to speed off and get into 2nd lane, if so I was gonna teach him a lesson.

Light goes green and he is pushing, so I gave gas. He makes into 2nd lane and get stuck behind one car. I went straight to first lane. As soon as I passed that slow car on 2nd lane, I took the 2nd lane. Now I see subaru coming up from 1st lane slowly. He is definitely hesitant about one on one from a roll.

Although he was slowly approaching , I didnt take a chance. I downshifted a gear in case he wanated a try. Gear flashed the number and didn't wanna downshift. So I cut off gas then tried again, it shifted into around 5000RPM @2nd.

He's approaching but he's not passing me. He's kinda matching my speed. After few seconds, it looked like he wanted a run. I gave a little gas so he can hear I'm about to take off. Then I took off, shifting into 3rd gaining distance from WRX slowly. DId he try? I can't guarantee but distance I gained was less than if he remained at same speed.

not sure about from a roll, but for 0-60, wrx gets about 1 second ahead of you if you have AT.... if it was STi, then about 2 seconds ahead of you

3G AT: 6.3 sec
wrx: 5.3 sec
STi: 4.3 sec

the numbers are off my memory, so maybe not exactly, but should fall in somewhere there

wrx is 0-60 in 6.0 if driven well maybe 5.9, but more like the same as a 3G AT with the average driver. drivers race for sure.

I don't think 0-60 times really matter, races like these usually don't last under 10 seconds.

From a roll on the high way i think the TL will take the WRX by very little
V6 vs V4..... 270 hp vs 225hp... but we also have to consider the weight difference, MT vs AT and FWD vs AWD.

From a stop... WRX will most likely take the early lead, but eventually the TL should catch up in the higher speeds

Well I dont know about that now, TL catchin up later? I mean depending on the WRX if its auto or stick, those are quick I4 Turbo Charged Vechiles. Doesn't the TL have like 250 - 260ish HP? Even though that WRX has 227, its much lighter than the TL. The TL has to make up for the weight now with the extra HP. Not trying to be negative, but I would think, the Wrx would have you all the way. However, if your TL was 6 Speed, could be a different situation. Find him again and ask for a run.

2002 Subaru Impreza WRX 5.7 14.4 (MT)

2006 Subaru WRX STI 4.5 13.0 (MT)

From my track experience most stock WRX's trap in the low low low 90's.

The well driven ones will see nice launches but they fall on their faces. (With auto)

Yeah, a STOCK WRX(non-STI) is pretty weak up top, so if its a race from 0-125 I can see a TL AT lose the lead early and then eventually catch up and pass a WRX once you pass legal speeds.

You can expect 9.3-9.5 1/8th out a manual wrx in stock condition. The auto has to be a few tenths slower. I believe that a TL is capable with a good launch to pull away around the 1/8th mile mark and continue on.
