3G Vs. 4G in looks alone.....
#41
Its way bigger than the beak and this really shouldn't be up for debate. Its called COHESIVENESS the 3G has and the 4G isn't even close. The 3G is IMO the most beautiful Acura sedan ever produced and a reason SO MANY bought the car. THe other merits just made it better. It looks almost "Italian" and almost has RWD proportions. From front to back, it makes sense and DID NOT FOLLOW what everyone else was doing in a GOOD way.
The 4G is a complete and utter mess. For one why is it so big? Two, it looks like 10 different designers worked on it. Third, the beak is horrible and the rear resembles a Saturn. Finally the last thing people want in this economy is to attract attention.
Whats even MORE alarming is the car is slower, heavier, with the same engine and transmission. I don't get it???
It reminds me of when the LEgend became the RL. What a disaster that was and still is.

Looking at the 4G TL, it's just weird, look at the front girll, front lower lights, the front light it's a collage of shapes, and looks hideous!
Also, look at the back.... the tail lights, the red reflector and exhaust also collage of different shapes... hideous!

the interior is great..... as for the painted beak..... now it really look like the new camery in the front (why would anyone wanna pay that $38000+ for a camery wanna be..... just go buy a camery, it's cheaper)..... and still butt fugly in the back with all the mis-placed lights and reflectors..... is this crap designed by Picaso or visually challenged person? was the exterior designer of this garbage design fired?

my freind is a manager of the internet at an acura dealership and he fowarded me a letter that a customer sent him...
The 2009 TL is the ugliest acura to roll off the production line in the history of Acura Motor Co. I mean how can a dealership sell this car and still call it self a business? i would boycott the car and refuse to sell it until acura gets it s**t together. I am going to open my own acura dealer and refuse to carry the TL. RL TSX MDX RDX...but NO TL. and if acura doesnt like it then they can go back to the drawing board, except this time put their glasses on and not try to mold a Maxima, M45, a Jet, and a Fat Chinese Chick. Go fk ur self acura TL designers. I hate you. You all stink.
lol 3gs are the best

I'm partial to Acura and I think my next car will still be an Acura... A second gen RL actually. Those look awesome. In a couple years though I'm not sure I'd want a used one with that many years on it. I'll probably want a 2010 M3. ![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
I'm actually thinking about getting a Nissan Cube. I know those have been really popular in Japan.

Today I seen a wdp 4g with a new grill I believe it was the Strut grill. I saw it in Queens. It looked pretty good with that grill but it still wouldn't make me buy one. Hell when I went to by my TL-S the dealer was like I can give you a better deal on the 09 then the 08. I asked him if he would buy an 09 he said no. I said so what makes you think I want it.

I actually saw a 4G NBP with the beak color matched today. It actually made it look a lot nicer, but I still wouldn't own one. All the tech that's in there now will be on my future car any way. I'll be keeping my 3G until the wheels fall off.

Dealers opinion
I was pretty surprised to find this comment on the dealers site. I guess some of them are trying to take action to make it more appealing to some.
2009 TL: Enhance the appeal of your TL with optional new grilles!
![](http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s28/zobertl/grille1.jpg)
Tired of the touch of chrome on the factory grille that sticks out like a silver front tooth? These excellent enhancements that will give it the stealthy feel you've been looking for. If you do not own one yet, take a trip down to Pohanka Acura to see why this is America's highest selling luxury sedan.

^^^I like the grill on the left, but not the one on the right. But the fog light/turn signal array is still a mess (on the right). The array on the left is not as bad.

Yup... I guess we do... since it's fugly....
Well, I would have to agree that the grill on the left is an improvement over the OEM shown on the right...
But, both foglight and turn signal light array are just strange....
I guess the Acura Designers were in a rush and just put things together...
Just look at 3G TL, it's really well designed, all lines and shapes blends correctly.... Not like 4G a collage of shapes and lines....

I think the V6 TSX is the successor to the 3g TL...I don't know what happened in the design room, but I'm guessing they were told to make it bolder looking and then given a deadline or something and this happened!
There are a lot of little things about the design too. For example the slim headlights worked on the 3g TL, but on the 4g they just look to small, and I'm not too sure about the arch over the wheel well either.
I'm glad I've driving an 05 TL. It's basically a pimped out Honda Accord so I in theory I could drive it long enough for the 5g TL!

ADVANCE.
I seen a white 4g last night and parked next to it, mine is also white... I like them! Especially the awd. Pretty cool. It's growing on me, just like how a lot of stuff grows on people after seeing it over and over. But of course the first time I ever seen the 3g I was like DAAAAYAAAM that sht is tight right off the bat.
PEACE!

Acura f#$!ed up the 4G design.... they just need to admit it and fix it or redesign it (and i mean really fix that fugly exterior).... and if they do fix it, and push out a better looking car, do you know how pissed off those people that owned the 4G now is going to be? can you imagine?

I expect them to learn their lesson and hopefully hear everyone's cries and make the 4g a better looking car when its time for the refresh in 3 years

'06 TL 5AT NAV Anthracite
Give me the 3G all the way. As I was telling the Acura guy at the NYIAS last week... I'm a dedidcated Honda/Acura guy and with the 1G TSX and 3G TL, I thought those were absolutely awesome looking cars and I was always a bit worried about the look of their replacements. The 2G TSX is OK. I could actually own one now that the V6 will be available in '10, but the 4G TL... No way. The last time my car was being serviced I test drove the 4G with SH AWD. I took it on the Capital Beltway up to about 110 MPH and it was a blast to drive. I really liked the interior too, but the exterior is way too harsh for me. One of the salesmen asked me when I was giving up my 3G (for a 4G). I told him that: "You'd have to pry my 3G keys out of my dead hands".
Looking forward to Acura revising the 4G. As another poster said, I also feel the same about the current Accord.

I just had a 4G for a loaner while my 3G was being serviced. The interior doesn't look all that great either. Whereas the 3G has carbon fiber/wood on the door and wrapping around the dashboard, the 4G has pieces of that material "slapped" on. There is no cohesion of the design. The cabin is a little claustropobic but I love the keyless entry.

If you compare elbow to elbow, you'll notice 3G TL was really well designed, with a lot of consideration.
All the wholes in console area are good for many things, hide your Radar control, or Tein Control, etc...
The 3G front doors map compartment are more useful than the 4G TL...
Then the central console arm rest in 3G TL is 2 level, while the 4G TL is a tray...
I admit the only thing I like about the 4G TL is the keyless/push button start button and the NAVI Screen resolution...
Other than that I take my 3G TL-S any day...

I gotta agree with you on that, its like they blended too many shapes and lines together, its almost sloppy.

I've seen a couple in the last few days...I have to admit, they're growing on me. Not to the point of buying one (ever), but at least to the point that I can say "that's a decent looking car". But, the new TSX still looks better, and my 3G trumps them both

Funny, I picked my car up from the bodyshop yesterday and had the girlfriend following me home. I pulled up next to a 4G TL so I had to call her to get her opinion. She's one of those brutally honest girls so I knew I wasn't worried about her trying to spare my feelings.
She thought the 4G looked like it had "cancer" lumps in several places and the only thing that looked decent was the side view. In her opinion side by side there was no comparison with the 3G and 4G in looks. I tend to agree.
They have been growing on my but every time I see a 3G and 4G next to each other I realize how much better the 3G looks.

Yes I have to agree here as well, the 4G is growing on me, but like others have mentioned they are focusing on a different audience now and that is apparent with the price tag as well.
Also I feel that the 4G can look amazing with modifications, but in its stock form it just looks like a mess.

In all fairness, I think the 4G is not a bad looking car, just average. It's when you compare it to a 3G that IMO is one of the best looking sub $40,000 cars ever made, you get the negative comments.
