The 3G TL is NOT a car designed for smokers....
Yeah yeah I know I'm killing myself, and it's a disgusting habit, but damn....you can't even crack the window to smoke in the rain without getting the door trim drenched, and my back seat is covered in ash from ashing out the window....Not to mention there is no lighter or ashtray...WTF....back growing up, my dad's car had 4 lighters AND ashtrays...for every passenger. I know smoking is taboo and anyone who does it needs to be stoned to death, but WTF?
I paid good money for this car, just like everyone else.

Three Wheelin'
Try e-cigarettes solves half of your problem but I agree with you. Can't crack the windows open in raining climate and ash does build up in the back seat and dash. At least a pack of smokes and lighter fit perfectly in that storage bin in the front door.

heres some tips
1. if you get window visors you can crack all 4 windows to smoke, or just get some fresh air when its raining outside.
2. ash out your sunroof. open your sunroof all the way and when you need to ash your cigarette just stick your arm out the sunroof. if your going over 20 mph the air will easily ash your cig for you. you can easily ash out the sunroof while also keeping your hand on the steering wheel and eyes on the road, so doing this on the high way is pretty safe compared to trying ash out your window. when you ash out the window you gotta take your eyes off the road and look at the window and that can be dangerous at certain speeds

As mentioned above, window visors and cracking the sunroof on tilt would help. Im not sure but isn't there some sort of aftermarket cigarette lighter you could plug into the power outlet? And i've seen ashtrays that slip into the cup holders.
:/ Im not sure if thats helps.
But, since smoking is not the norm anymore, and is mostly frowned upon... automakers generally dont accomodate the needs of a 'minority' and focus on the majority. It sucks, but its not like your being discriminated on.

I'm a heavy smoker but never in the car, I hate the mess it makes, the potential to burn holes in things and how disgusting it makes the windows. Not to mention that if you smoke regularly in the car then you will more than likely never get rid of the smell. Smoking stinks.
Honestly man, get yourself into the habit of having one before you get in the car then just train yourself to be a non smoker while inside. It's really easy, honestly.
Even if I take long trips I'll just stop somewhere, get out, stretch, smoke, etc.
Yes, very bad habit but I will openly admit that I do not wish to quit ATM.

Not "stoning" ya or anything but I doubt "easily accessible lighter and ashtray" even made the list of selling points when buying their TLs. If the TL is telling you it's not a smoker-friendly car, then just wait til your next stop.

I face the same issue with my car. What I did was just buy an ashtray that fits into the cup holders that get no use anyways, and just tilt the sunroof up so the smoke leaves the car. Works out well for me. Im really contemplating window visors but IDK. I can't say i absolutely adore them.

My friends and I are very careful when passing it around. We usually have someone in the rear put the ash out the window. Otherwise, the windows stay up!
Wait.. what are we talking about?

Hahahahaha - Definitely feel the same way. I have noticed that there is a significant angle to the side windows on the TL. I hate it because it let's a lot of rain in and my wife hates i on trips because it makes it harder to sleep with the sun coming down and in easer. I like the styling on the TL though, so no smoking when it's raining (must have ventilation!) and wifey just has to deal with it on trips.
I have also found that if I leave the drivers side window at least 1/2 way up, most of the ashes go out the window. All the way down with the window and it is a free for all on ashing.

AJT, it sounds like you know it's a bad habit-I know smokers have said it's a hard habit to break.
You lose your TL mojo when you smoke in it. The window visors will do you good though.

It's funny im in North Carolina where we had tobacco fields right across from my house growing up and I know no one that smokes. It's just gross and unattractive to most here on the beach. To smell an old persons breath of a smoker. That inner breath smell coming off their suety lungs will make someone puke. How people can kiss heavy smokers is beyond me...lol. As for cars... Which cars come with ash trays and lighters now a days anyway? I can only imagine your cars resale value with all the ash that's in the cabin of your car ha ha.

Sounds like another item to add to the list of annoying features or lack of features for car in another thread.
Since you smokers like to ash out- can I assume you also butt-out too or do you save your butts in some other container and dispose of them properly?
