You can probably score a Canali or Prada suit from a season ago marked down quite a bit...lots of places have suit sales going at this time of year, actually. The challenge of course is to get something in your size.
FWIW, my general day-to-day suits are from Hugo Boss. I save the Prada and D&G suits for more formal affairs. But, Boss suits which can be as low as $400-$500 depending on the sales, are fantastic.

You are such an engineer! BUT...it does not hurt to dress up once in a while. In general, I'm almost always in a suit (no tie)...On horridly hot days, I will go casual. But, otherwise, well, depending on the industry you are in, what you wear does matter. Hate to say it, we are now in a shallow shallow very shallow world. People judge you on appearances...
i thoroughly believe in nice clothes- I like to dress up for date nights with the Mrs., or whatever event that comes up- but I can't do it on the daily.

i won't disagree with you. My issue is wrinkles. If it wasn't for wrinkles, I'd wear nicer clothes to work. But I hate dealing with wrinkles. I know there are "wrinkle free" clothes, but shit, try finding the right size for me now I'm at the point where I am considering getting custom shirts made, because it is damn difficult to find a neck size of 17.5 and sleeves that are 36 (I believe). I have no idea why, but I have a thick neck that most don't accommodate.

I really should go to NB someday. I hear it's quite gorgeous there...just lots of rain. A colleague who ended up being a friend moved there to head up one of the departments for Toilet and Douche. Gives me an excuse to visit...and eat lobster.

Dress shirts, typically, the higher-end ones can be worn 1-3 times...before a wash. And if you own say, 9-10, you won't cycle back to re-wearing a shirt for awhile. Also, depends on your laundry process...but, , I won't lie...I'm fawking lazy and so, all of my dress shirts go to the cleaners.
At your size, Taco...I think you usually have it easy to get nice clothes! There's always size 17 and stuff and even more so when they go to discount!

I wear jeans with Coach loafers to work. Does that count for anything? I wear loafers because I'm too lazy to tie laces

Lots of places have decent return and shipping policies. Harry Rosen has an online store now.

You are referring to wrinkles in your dress shirts? I know suits don't GENERALLY wrinkle...you can wear it and it'd be fine to re-wear again another day.

and yes, I'm talking about shirts. I'd stick out like a sore thumb if I were to wear a suit here it's bad bad to be underdressed... But it's also bad to be overdressed.

man... Here, I can never find that size shirt. I'll hit 7-8 stores before I find one shirt. And I'll go through the whole spectrum- expensive to balls cheap stores.

Well, eek...Um, FWIW...the only brand I think that can be tailored for your size and made to measure is actually, Eton. I think Harry Rosen or Henry Singer in your neck of the woods carries that line. FANTASTIC shirts. I have a few...the patterns you can pick from are great. I think on sale, you can get one for about $120-$150...but, after you feel the material, you can see why. And it's made-to-measure!
