What brand so we know which to avoid
Team Owner
Brand makes no difference. SS lines are known to fail in such a manner and are advised against being used on DD vehicles. The wear happens under the SS mesh and isn't visible until generally when it's too late.
At first I thought something crazy was happening as I had plenty of fluid left in the brake cylinder reservoir. Now that it has all dripped out, not so much the case
I didn't even install the brake lines. Personally, I would never use them for the above reason. They were already on the car when I bought it. From what I remember, they are a quality brand too.

Hmm... good to know.. Guess I won't be upgrading to SS brake lines "just because" then
or at least do a little more research before doing so..

The fitting is probably fine. Most of the time the hose and fitting just pull apart as the failure mode. Next most common would be fatigue of the hose right at the base of the fitting resulting in a split.

SS lines are not to blame, it's always the rubber that gives out. SS mesh can't help that.

rcb2000 the human torque wrench. I bet he could tell how much torque one would be using as they were twisting his head off!
Reminds me of some guy my uncle worked with. They were building buses and my uncle was checking for snags, kept finding the same ones over and over and as much fun as it is to blame the engineers he knew the plans were fine. Goes to the guy assigned on that job and tells him he has to do this like this because that's the proper way. Guy answers with "Whoa c'mon, it's not like we're building planes!".
Guy was not yet permanent, having done less than the req. 6 months. Useless to say he was not kept.

Apologies if this already made the rounds but it was new to me.
I literally lol'd at this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgWg...youtu.be&t=19s
1) someone though that up.
2) and then wrote it down
3) and then *recorded* it
4) and then *made a video*
The chorus and the straight faced seriousness with which it is delivered is what gets me

I've never had just a rubber brake hose fail, regardless of how old, on the dozen+ (2/3s of which were absolute beaters) cars I've owned in my life. I get my first pair of SS lines, on a maintained car and they fail. I know what I'm using in the future again.

The SS ever so slightly rubs against the rubber hose. I'm sure the rubber contracts and expands at a different rate than the SS also. After X years, shit fails.

SS braided lines are pretty standard in high pressure applications since the overbraid provides significant reinforcement to the hose without excessively added mass. The braid shouldn't really be loose around the inner tube though, it'll have a little give and will slip when the hose is bent, but it's not like the inner liner can significantly expand; the whole thing should be in intimate contact with the braid.
A downside is that a SS overbraid hose is pretty intolerant to excessive abuse. Put a kink in it or pinch the inner tube and you won't be able to see the damage until it fails.
Anecdotaly, I run SS braided on my bike and literally trust them with my life. But I also bought and installed them myself and know they're in 100% condition. I'd really guess that the PO or the installer dinked it up when putting it on, or there's the super small chance that was just an inherent manufacturing defect.
Not really sure what my point is but I worded anyway.

Hmm. But you said you didn't install them, they came with the car. So it's possible that there was an outstanding issue that isn't really the fault of the part.

I personally love the feel of SS lines and would trust them with my life as long as quality ones are bought.

Freaking new accountant lady at work, we put the rock station on Fridays and she closes her door because she can't stand it. It's Guns n Roses playing, Sweet Child O mine and she's near the coffee maker and she's like "Oh man, all these heavy songs, crazy youngins". We ask her if she knows what band or song that is. Nope, she has no idea.
How??! Has she never heard this before?
She turned 47 by the way. She ain't 70.

I know. I want to. I've got an exhaust leak that I'm looking at tonight. If the leak is anything other than say the jpipe bolts backing off I may jump on it. Wonder if he'd take $1000. Lol
I'd have to hack off the tips though. :/

you must really be an ignorant parking lot grease monkey fuck if you think you can say he's sucking small cake this morning only he's been sucking small cake for a living since you were in your fathers ball as he learned from a master cake sucker with 52 years of experience who turns out to be his father and also #2 small cake sucker in Illinois.
Hack off as in?

I have an 04... the tips won't fit the exhaust ports. I'd have to remove them and weld my own on like J did.
So it'd be at least another couple hundred on top.

If you can get it all installed I can't imagine someone charging you a couple hundreds more for simple welds like this.

^Still gotta buy the tips... Lol
The quads I have on my exhaust now cost about $100 themselves. $50 for the welds...

Chad, you probably won't regret it. It sounds fantastic.
If I had to go back in time, I'd probably just get a type s aspec (if you can) and not mess with those gorgeous tips. I love mine, but the guy I bought it from isn't sharing where he sources them from and isn't very helpful.
