Heard on NPR the other day about a dude who was a huge anti-tax guy and setup some kind of complicated legal scheme to avoid taxes for like 30 years with a trust and other things.

Finally IRS caught up with him and he was facing felony charges and jail time and something like 600k owed (but he was also not so smart with investments and had not much assets to tax anyway) and settled for like 50k in the end. Doh!

I'm fine with people who are very very anti-tax and anything "big jackbooted govt thuggery!!!".....sure stick to the pure anti-tax principle...just don't leech off of public roads or the post office or whatnot......

^^Yo, so I'm going to be in LA for a bout 4 days for a conference/training workshop. Looking to get into a sporty ride for the duration out of the rental car counters at LAX.

Any advice? Been looking at Budget/Hertz/Sixt/Avis and they seem to have lot of V6 Mustang/Camaros....would like to be getting some seat time in the new 5.0 but websites are not showing any of that ...

I was out there a few weeks ago. Rented from Alamo which shares a location with National. I noticed that National had a Quattroporte featured.

That could be a sporty ride that you'd still be able to fit your luggage in.

Yeah did see some interesting options at diff places....Sixt has 5-series for something like $50/day but not sure which range in the series. Another place had a R/T Challenger for $100 and the new Mustang GT for like $150/day.

Ah well, we'll see....a Quattroporte likely out of my budget but thanks for the heads up though!

Sixt would probably be the best in terms of nicer cars. I rent with Avis every week but they don't have that great of cars.

Accord going in the shop. Think it may have a bad fuel filter.

Replaced a license plate light. Jumped in the car. Lights come on radio the annoying Honda beep etc. turn key. Doesn't start... Waits a couple minutes, starts car again. Car shuts off after running for 3-5 seconds.

I'm like I highly doubt it's a failing ignition after installing HIDs.

That navtool poll/thread is getting kind of fun to watch. I don't want to sound disparaging, but it's starting to smell a *little* fishy in there.

And I don't think I've ever seen RonA post so many times in one place. I can almost hear his teeth grinding from here.

Yeah been reading some good reviews and I like their website design...simple and intuitive and seems upfront. Definitely a cut diff from the other rental companies. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Will also try to meet up with a childhood friend whom I haven't seen in like 10 years...should be interesting.

Hmmmmmmmm no. I know I should have though, but I didn't do it on my 13'. I'm going to go out there in a few and take the HIDs out just to see if that could be the issue. I read that it could be something electrical or something with fuel.

I keep saying Honda/Acura reliability is shit these days, but every time I say it, it's like I become the second coming of Lucifer and everyone wants to banish me to the pits of hell. Fuck, if it is the HIDs, that'd be definitely a new one for me. Especially since they likely weren't even on when you started the car.

Hopefully your car is an easy fix. Hopefully Honda starts getting their shit together. They're starting to make Hyundai look really good. How the fuck is the fuel filter fucked after only 500 miles?

Speaking of which, I've seen a few commercials for the 2017 Hyundai Elantra, and wow, color me impressed. That car (at least in canada) is jam packed with features, on an entry level car. The one place the civic has this car beat is with the turbo. Looks good too.

Seriously, this car is crazy.

Seriously, this car even outshines the new civic.
All-New 2017 Elantra | Compact Car | Hyundai Canada
Seems like they took alot of cues from the new Fusion. And the new Fusion is not a bad looking car either....wonder how similar the styling cues have to be before the company start thinking about some sort of copyright infringement.

We'll have to see how Hyundai improves...I think from their website/warranty it does seem like the new Elantra is worlds better than before.

Though their biggest enemy is themselves. They've had a terrible history of really craptastic cars and it'll take some time for them to get the rep back up. We'll see how much dent they'll put into the Civic...though will likely take quite a while before they put any sizeable dent into their sales.

Until their cars start to actually age well, it'll be tough for them to grow...but they seem to be doing the right things from the tons of features they've got.

They haven't had craptastic cars since the early 90s. That company folded (it was a subsidiary of Hyundai shipping, or whatever the parent company was). Eventually they were like "ok, let's try this again. And not fuck around this time" and they brought back the automotive division. That stigma, although weakening, will still be around for the next decade.

Kind of like saying Honda is reliable. No its not. It was. But we humans like to hang on to the past and as such, this is what happens.

What brand did you install if you don't mind me asking? Always always always install a relay harness. It's just a small price to pay for peace of mind.

1. I do see the similarities, but, I still prefer the elantra lol. I haven't been a fan of the new fusions tailights, lol. I do like the quad pipes on it though. Either way, Hyundai has the ex lead designer from Audi working for them, for like the last 5 years. They used to really copy other brands until that guy came around. While yes, they do look similar, the Hyundai falls in line with the rest of their design language.

2. I don't think they will take much market from the civic, for the same reason I put in my previous post. Maybe some. But very little. It's hard to break stigmas.

3. Our 2012 Hyundai sonata, purchased in 2011, has given us zero problems. One recall and one TSB, but that's it. 120,000km later and everything works as it should, including the turbo. We used that thing as our workhorse. Road trips, extensive home renovations (I crammed everything possible into that fucker, including 3 full size bags of insulation one in the trunk, one in the backseat, one riding shotgun

Taco,

I understand why you're doing it and I definitely appreciate the concept and sentiment but personally for me, it's just not a battle I want to fight. Sure he's full of but he's the excitement those old timers have over there. We have so much other trolls to be confrontational with, I don't see him as one to do it with. Call it being a pussy, call it being respectful of your elders, but I don't really care about him to be honest.

I care about you though I'll back you up on another other troll's thread but as for RLX, not for me.

I do have to agree with you on the hanging onto the stigma/bias as I do have some myself. It is hard to break.

I haven't personally owned a Hyundai but do have a friend with a 2012 Sonata and seems quite fair for the price and the size.

I think post-2010-ish they've starting to step up. And I'm all for more competition as it will give the other car makers a kick in the butt to not get lazy.

I dunno if I'd buy another. Maybe. But not right now. The Sonata was for Wifey and I must admit, the car does the job well for her. My only major gripe about it is the soft suspension. I remember reading a review where the writer was talking about the sporty setup. I was like "Dafuq?" It's anything but sporty. It's good for her, but if I had to drive that car on the daily, I'd be looking to firm that suspension up ASAP.

But yeah, it seems there really aren't any cars or manufacturers that I'd consider these days. I like everything about the Germans, save for the costs. I like what ford and Chrysler are doing, but I have gripes about each of them individually. Don't get me started on the Japanese. I like Lexus but I hate their lack of a manual transmission. Instant pass.

Im not even convinced he's that old. I have a feeling he plays that he is, to fit in with the rest. Maybe it's just me, but I doubt he's a day over 40.
